A lot of the i18n elements are still missing actually, if someone would give me some points I'd gladly try and find them in the code..

"normally", there is nothing to do "manually" to get the whole list of strings to be translated.
It should be done automatically by poedit software and the result should be an opencpn.pot file.

Can you give some examples of missing elements ?

If some strings are not translated, it could be :
(1) a translation not made yet
(2) or an opencpn.pot file not updated (poedit not run)
(3) or a lack into a function call that cause the non-appereance of the string inside opencpn.pot

There are strings in the code that do not appear for translation. My guess is they would need to be tagged appropriately in the code.

I believe some strings do not appear because poedit was not run for OCPN-2.1.0 .

The 6 involved files actually known are :
options.cpp, chart1.cpp, chcanv.cpp, nmea.cpp, routemanagerdialog.cpp, routeprop.cpp .

I think the easiest way to proceed is :
(1) get the involved source files from here
(2) get and install poedit from here
(3) load the translation-file (example opencpn_fr_FR.po) into poedit
(4) change parameters : catalog => settings => paths
(5) update the catalog : catalog => update from sources (some error messages may appear because of empty strings. I think we just have to ignore them.)
(6) update the translations (new ones to be done manually, fuzzy ones to be checked) and save the new file.

The strings for translation (.pot) was provided by Dave, and there were still a few missing from 1.3.6. There is an updated file for 2.1.0 containing new strings since 1.3.6 (but still not all of them) available at sf.net

Mercy Jean-Pascal,

I did accordingly (nice, i didn’t know PO would work this way ). But my .po file (_nl_NL) is now filled with a reference to the source code on MY system and line numbers. I think it’s better if Dave will supply us with a new base .po file NOT?

I am either waiting for someone to tell me how to place the i18n hooks within the code to extract the missing strings OR hope more extensive .pot files materialise in the future - although the development priority is 2.1.0 beta testing at the moment so no rush really
