It's not exactly a secret that OpenCPN's Windows installer is scripted in NSIS .....

Thomas..
Ok..thanks. And is it overkill to use also that for the more simple plugin procedures?? Or is it worth to have a look?

Re: OpenCPN Internationalization ( i18n )

Hakan can you help me get the batch to do this?

Quote:
@REM If directory ../Opencpn/plugins/celestial_navigation does not exist
mkdir. If directory ../Opencpn/plugins/celestial_navigation/data does not
exist mkdir. Then copy all celestial_navigation data files to opencpn
\celestial_navigation\data\
Also would like it to show what it is going to do. Prompt yes, Quit.
Then show what it did paths/filename.

Then I think I can do the others.
Thanks.

Hakan:

To be clear: Did you actually run the BAT-file using the mouse command "Run as administrator"??? I read a note about that CMD.EXE running the bat-file don't care about the user permissions.
From Start Menu, Picking Run and entering CMD [enter] then executing the command file by typing [path]batchfile.bat does not work...permissions problem.
Clicking on the Bat file does not work...permissions problem.

Rick:

Highlight the batch file
CopyPluginWMM_Win32_Win64.bat
Right click and pick "Run as Administrator"
This works, as Hakan suggested.

Re: OpenCPN Internationalization ( i18n )

Rick...all
Thanks to Thomas and Rick as well I've start to look further into NSIS. It seams so far not to be a overkill and may be what we need?? The Batch files are something like a brittle venture and is not at all useful for other system than Windows.
If you don't mind I would like to check NSIS before more batch file development- -Ok?

And by the way -- Should we maybe move to a new thread?? It seems that we are gliding away from pure language related tasks?

I am NOT a small systems programmer, but my feelings are that there are reasons to use what O uses.
  1. It is what O uses so it will look and feel the same.
  2. At some point, someone may write a plugin that is complicated enough to need the extra features of the more robust installer. If it does, well, you're already there instead of having to find a different installer for just that one PI.
  3. You have the option to have it register itself properly with the OS. (EG: in Windows it shows in Add/Remove programs). In other words, it is actually installing like a real professional program. With plugins, if they are truly just installing into an already existing O folder, this is not necessary. But, a future plugin might want to install itself, and then just put an interface PI in the PI folder.

Just some thoughts.

..@all
Dan.. I do agree and point 3 and especially its latter part is so far valid for the plugins

My learning travel into NSIS is slowly but very convincing that that's The system!
I now ask for some testing but first let's move to a recent thread:
"Plugin distribution"
