OpenCPN has been drafted!

♫ In the navy, they're using OpenCPN... ♫

I stumbled upon this by accident, and thought it would be of interest to the rest of you to know...

TATA Advanced Systems, part of the big Indian TATA conglomerate, has screenshots of OpenCPN (running on Ubuntu) on their website about defense solutions. A radar overlay can also be seen.

TATA ADVANCED SYSTEMS

It's not clear to what extent they might be using OpenCPN; in the "Network Diagram" picture you can see them using a different ECDIS in the "Integrated Bridge Management System".

Perhaps Dave should send them a friendly, precautionary reminder that development on their part needs to be shared according to the GPL license.

Nothing wrong there, but nice to know the US Coast Guard Auxiliary is also looking seriously at OpenCPN...

OpenCPN

Funny that they don't mention the Linux architecture - just Win and OSX.

I note that one of Tata's system's "Key Characteristics" is:
Quote:
Highlr reliable network design
Let's hope their defence systems are more highlr reliable than their spell checker

Indians speak Pidgin English. As it was a former colony of your country you should know this...
