You have the manual onboard with the program:
the help button "?" and then Help....

Re: opencpn grib and gmail

Hi !!

This is really not related to OpenCpn but to your computer's general settings. To use Gmail as your default e-mail client see this link: How to Set Gmail as Your Browser's Default Email Client

Another solution is to install Zygrib zyGrib: grib file, weather data visualization and use Zygrib to download the grib files and them use the downloaded grib files with OpenCpn.

Or install Viewfax.
It was written for Airmail, and by default, would try to install into an Airmail folder.
Just deny it that by changing the install to folder to one of your choice.

Works great for RMS Express too...

Re: opencpn grib and gmail

Hi All:
Can I jump onto this thread with a question of a similar nature?

I have AirMail as my on board mail system, which I would like to sync with OpenCPN for grib downloads, but I am stumped regarding what is involved to make them communicate.

The request drop down shows Saildocs, but upon submitting the request I'm told to check the PC's default program settings. AirMail doesn't appear here and besides I wish to stay with Yahoo and my "on-the-hard" email.

I can download gribs with Airmail, but OpenCPN doesn't see them, nor is there a browse capability to tell it where to look.

What am I missing?

Thanks....Mike

Re: opencpn grib and gmail

When you click the grib tool on the toolbar a small dialog pops up. On the dialog top far right there are 3 icons. Third from the right there is an icon that looks like a file folder with a piece of paper sticking out. Click that and you should be able to navigate to the folder where your downloaded grib file is located. Select the grib file and click Open.

Re: opencpn grib and gmail

Hi transmitterdan:
Thanks for the reply, but I've been down that road.

Grib files downloaded by AirMail are file type .msg, hence they aren't viewed by OpenCPN grib plug-in (at least in my case).

Furthermore, when I do import a grib file into the Grib plugin popup box, to which you refer, the file name is placed in the upper left quadrant of the popup and is greyed out.

I am anticipating that once I get the download source linked into the OpenCPN grib plugin, I should see all available grib files, from which I select one and it gets overlayed. The number of steps required to locate the required AirMail download is complex and far from user friendly.

So I am thinking that I am missing a large piece of the puzzle.

Re: opencpn grib and gmail

.msg is your email format. The grib file should be attached.
