Re: OpenCPN General
This program is way too complicated. I don't find it easy to navigate to get any information out of it. I can't even get the thing debugged to update my present position.
There's so many other easy chartplotter to use. Maybe I'll fool around with it when I have time. But for now I'm done with it.

Sorry to hear this. Did you get the GPS working? -After that it is much easier Click on the Red boat, Create a Route with the pencil and then Right-Click Activate Route. Where did we fail you? We'd really like to know.

Here's a briefing I do on OpenCPN for newbies. You might want to have a look.

I am trying to understand this but as an old man uncomfortable around all things electronic and computers in general I found the program very simple to install on my laptop. The android version on my tablet and smartphone.
Easy and reliable to use.

GPS doesn't seem to interface. When I run the debug screen nothing happens this time. Baud rate and port are the same.
Anyhow I'm on my way to Florida and I really don't have time to mess around with it. Thanks anyway.

Come on Jimske. That link I gave is to a .pdf file, NOT code.
We are trying to help you. Give it a chance, please.

Re: OpenCPN General
Guys,
We can't always know the whole story. For some, O is too complicated. If it were less complicated then it would be inadequate for most everyone else. Jimske never really asked a coherent question but got lots of help anyway. In today's world if a user has to read anything to learn how to use a program then by definition it is "too complicated".

Re: OpenCPN General
I do believe he is a good sailor as I met him at Mystic Seaport. Perhaps he'll try it again later and we can try to help him again.
BTW Terry that pdf is actually is html, so that's why Jim said that. Maybe just use a regular link?
Would love to be able to see it.

Re: OpenCPN General
Gerhard,
The link takes one to a file sharing service. Some anti-malware software blocks these or sometimes interferes with the display. So some users may see html code and not the same thing you see.
Do not assume everyone else in the world is stupid.

Re: OpenCPN General
Wrong!
The link clearly points to a pdf file.
If you Windows guys have so many malware running that you see html instead of pdf you better should abandon Windows.

Re: OpenCPN General
Gerhard...
The link you posted clearly points to a HTML page on the attached screenshot (Even on macOS as you can see from it). Can you please consider an excuse to the people you keep attacking here without any reason?
Thank you
Pavel

Terry a small comment on your tutorial -- you might not want to assume that CM-93v2 is available to a new user. It might be better to use NOAA charts as an introduction. Then provide help in finding a good download of CM-93v2 charts and their installation. Just a friendly suggestion to someone who has provided a great deal of help to so many CF and OpenCPN users. Thanks, Paul

Re: OpenCPN General
I agree that not everyone will have or can get CM 93 charts. Would be nice to show how to download some charts from NOAA and a couple other countries.
