Re: Weatherfax test file

Weatherfax is a plugin that receives fax via the audio card and decode them.
I would be interrested to get some audio test file that I can play in my lab to check that the plugin is actually working.
I do not have the equipement in my lab to receive the fax data and I's like to be able to ply repeatable data at my will with a known result.

Re: OpenCPN General

It appears to me that the opencpn.org website is down since yesterday.

skipper...
It may be for you as for me and many others;
There are old browser cache pointing to the old website?
You can of course delete all caches or, in Firefox, use Ctrl-Shift-H to list and delete only OpenCPN entries.

Re: OpenCPN General

I downoaded source code of OpenCPN 4.8.0 and s63_pi s63_pi_1.6.0-1 from github, and compiled them on Debian 9 x86_CPU Linux on Intel Core i5 CPU.
I installed Danish S-63 charts from Chartworld and things seem to work ok most of the time. However, I have found the following problems that someone on this board may know how to solve:

1. Sometimes the charts display starts to behave erratic in variou way, such as showing only chart outlines, or being stuck in one scale - say 1:22.000. When that happens, only solution is to clear the permits and reinstall charts. I assume the database or cached charts get damaged somehow.

2. When I activat the User Interface option "Use Settings for inland ECDIS version 2.3", the display seems to revert to night display by itself and and also seems to increase chance of getting the problem mentioned above under "1". I guess the night display could be some automatic thing looking at the time, so maybe there is a way to disable this feature and do it manually.

3. I have tried to debug it with ddd as described somewhere in the manuals, but apparently I did not compile it with debug symbols. Anyone knows how to specify this at compile time ?

best regards
Jan Thomsen

Can you perhaps identify the chart(s) in question (log-file)? Assuming that this is not for all charts, as other S-63 installs work.

This is intentionally: Inland ECDIS requires to start always in night mode to preserve night view when starting the program. So nothing that should be changed when in iECDIS mode.

Btw.: an own thread would be better perhaps in this case - so the issue does get the right attention.
You might ask a moderator to get thais done (the "attention triangle" sign down left)

Re: OpenCPN General

Hi Hubert,

thanks for a swift response.
The Chartworld map is the following:

9C3DK002
Baltic Sea Islands of Denmark 17.26 2018-01-31
However, I suspect you are requesting more specifically if I can provide info on a specific chart cell in that set causing the problem. I will attempt to keep an eye on the log file to see what I can find, but the problem is intermittant and I did not yet look carefully in the log file. So I will attempt to do that if and when the problem reappears. Howeverr, I also need to find out how to include debug symbols so I can get some more details on where in the code the problem arise. But that may prove difficult since the program does not crash when the problem arise. I just behaves erratic and slow.

I will look into your recommendation regarding moving it to a separate thread.

I remember that we had an issue with one of the big DK overview charts in the starting days of S-63.

If you like you can send us the chart set and the corresponding PERMIT.txt to info@o-charts.org for analyzing in parallel.
To get an idea if this is a chart/cell problem or a Debian9 one.

Re: OpenCPN General

Hi Hubert,

thanks for your reply. I have now done as propsed and sent an email with the requested info.

As a side issue, I noticed the the character encoding of the chart cells differ. In some cells native danish characters æ, ø and å are used correctly wheras on other cards english transliteration ae, oe and aa are used instead. I tried changing language settings in OpenCPN, but apparently to no avail.

Re: OpenCPN General

Jan,

chart set received, thanks.

If the names are displayed (and without any strange literals), then it is possible that the different cells charts are encoded in the two ways.
OCPN will not translate "ø" into "oe".

Just out of curiosity: Is "national texts on charts" enabled (from Options|Charts|Vector Charts Display)?
