Re: OpenCPN General

I confirm PjotrC's comments also in Vista. If the icons are showing on the chart, they should also be visible in the Route manager's waypoint list,UNLESS they have manually been swicthed off by depressing each icon in the list.

Re: OpenCPN General

Pavel,
Here is a screen showing a AIS target to scale, instead of only a triangle.
The only thing I would change is I would color like in OPEN.
Regards.

Re: OpenCPN General

I'm working on learning OpenCPN and have a question. Can a route be downloaded to a GPS from Open or vice versa from GPS to Open?

Re: OpenCPN General

DeborahLee,yes it can-both ways.
from the Help file The Route Manager and Data Import/Export | Official OpenCPN Homepage
about a third down the page..this speaks specifically to garmins

OpenCPN uses "gpx" files to store routes, marks, tracks. If your gps exports gpx,try them in OpenCPN.If your gps cannot "export" directly to OpenCPN,or directly to a file that O can "import",you will need intermediate software to do the download to a file and maybe then a further conversion to gpx format from the gps's proprietary format..There are several free softwares to do this but your gps may even have it's own.GpsBabel,GpsUtility,G7toWin are three good ones that I've been using but there are more.
"Exporting" from O to your gps would involve intermediate steps too.

Some things may get lost in the transfer.Icons of the marks might look different, though Opencpn has some pretty gps -friendly icons available. Also, notes or comments made in the OpenCPN dialogue may get lost in the shuffle.

OpenCPN in the latest issue of Ocean Navigator

The latest issue of Ocean Navigator, May/June 2012, includes an article about using OpenCPN together with GE2KAP for real world cruising. The piece "Updating Captain Cook", is based on the yacht Carina's experiences in The Pacific.

It's a good introduction, to a wider audience, of OpenCPN and GE2KAP, and what they can do together.

Nice, indeed, to see OpenCPN being mentioned in a main stream Cruising Magazine.

Re: OpenCPN General

Hi, I am interested in having OpenCPN running on remote computers within a local network. Is there any information on the format of the data that OpenCPN can pickup for NMEA....I was hoping to use a UDP broadcast that has all the NMEA serial data combined from my pilot house computer.
Any suggestion?

Thumbs up Re: OpenCPN General

Hi Sailors,

After a long trip when I enter a harbor I am always searching for the VHF channels, while opencpn is still running. Why we cant create a layer (sorry for the extra button) with all the VHF channels for locks and harbors but also the area's. There are many almanacs so the information is available. Possible the users who dont program can filout the VHF channels on a website. I would help you with Holland.

Broach.

Broach..

Easily done using OCPN´s POI making feature where you can set up links to harbor office and almanacs. I have created a free library on 4stored where you can upload/download such information. Register as a member and get 10GB free storage to start you off. Registration and use is free.

See ´the ´Community Waypoints Layers´thread #4 for example.

Hi all, could not get in to the tracker and flyspray to see if this is dealt with.
A small bug that always catches me.
OpenCpn V 2.5 Win Xp Pro
Vector (CM93) charts click on OBJECT QUERY
Read Query and then want to close window, the 'x' in the top right corner is not working, I HAVE to click the 'OK' button at window bottom.

Hoping to get this in before the next Alpha...

Nice work
Mike.

There is currently a bit of trouble with a spammer on the tracker, and to see anything you must register and log in.
As for your problem. Good news, the problem is already taken care of in the last few beta releases. Clicking the "x" now closes the query dialog.
