My mistake. While the track is being laid down it is red. Once tracking is turned off the track is magenta.

Dave...

Important error in this OCPN version.....

Program freezes up totally when doing an 'Object Query' from CM93.

I am running on Vista Home version.

Tore....

Hmmm.....
Works for me.

Seems pretty unlikely to be a systematic problem in Version 2.5. There have been literally thousands of downloads (and presumably users) since July.

I guess we need more info.
Anyone else having a problem with cm93 object queries?

Re: OpenCPN General

Dave..

I have a bad habit of closing a page by clicking the top right 'x'

Doing that in my 'Object query' freezes everything, having to do a re-set.
However, leaving the right way, chosing 'OK' works without problems..

Re: OpenCPN General

Tore,

I did your test also under Vista (however Vista Business SP2) and with CM93 2011 set.
With some object queries the Query Window does not close when the red X on the righthand topside of the Query Window is clicked.
However it does close when the Escape Key is used.
The program does not freeze up in my tests.

Kind regards

Peter

Re: OpenCPN General

Peter..

Two ways to close the window,ESCAPE and the OK button at the bottom of the frame.

While the Object query window is active and can not be closed, none of the OCPN controls can be used, nor can the program be closed unless you do a 'CTRL-ALT-DEL reset.

Re: OpenCPN General

I don't have any CM93 charts to test with but with NOAA ENCs I can confirm that the 'X' in the upper right of the object query window does not close the window in Windows Vista. However, even after I click on the 'X' I can close the object query window by clicking the 'OK' button or pressing the 'Escape' key.

Re: OpenCPN General

OCPN has become a very important planning and active navigation tool¨.
The addition of the 'Mark information' feature gives easy access to a number
of tools without leaving the chart.

In the attached example,I have set up links to:

1. AIS information with live targets using a special version of Marinetraffic.
2. Satellite based position information from Globalstar SPOT.
3. Downloading of .gpx and other track formats of Globalstar SPOT.
4. Collection of .grib data weather forecast for your area using Ugrib.
5. Display of photos for your area using Picasa with diffuse background.

I hope Dave will consider expanding the space in the Mark information box
as presently only a limited number of links can be accommodated.

OCPN also have the ability to show a dual screen in Google Earth format as
well as the display of .grib weather overlay from the collected .grib data.

Piotr has also developed a special route planning weather forecasting feature
based on .grib data displayed for each waypoint in the Route Manager.
Presently has to be run in a parallell OCPN as it is not compatible with all plugins
at the moment.

No,Kojiro,nothing special.Just get...
Anything you can connect to usb or the old-fashioned serial port should work fine.I nowadays use a Pharos usb one that came with MicrosoftStreets+Trips.Holux (was a "310" or something?)is another good usb one I had...I also can and have used a Garmin XL12,and my even-older Magellan handheld through the serial port A note or two on these latter type-you need the hookup cable for these and if you have no serial port, you can get a usb--->serial adapter...Also,these ol' handhelds have internal batteries (for the clock) that are starting to fail about now and will require long startups if it fails(ohh, I replaced mine)

I'd go for the usb puck for $15-$30 depending on if you're a power shopper or not.

Bluetooth will work too but I don't want to go there if I don't have to!

PS:where you be with the computer is a consideration. In a steel boat will want a longer cable but in many fibreglass boats(mine, anways)the gps works great inside the cabin. Not to say it won't work better out in the rain and spray, but maybe for not so long...

Bluetooth GPS has some pros and some cons:
No cables anymore but the puck needs to have a battery which have to be reloaded sometimes.

Off topic, but you'd think someone would glue on a little solar panel, wouldn't you? There's plenty of little panels for garden lights that'd work...
Likely it's beendone...?
