I have always interpreted it as: Chart Plotter (and) Navigator
But I am not quite sure about it - it is just my personal interpretation.

Add.: When you open the About OpenCPN window in the program this might be a clue.

At the time when OpenCPN started there was this navigation program called "The Cap“n" , still a part of Nobletech, I think. It is my personal take, that OpenCPN stands for open cap'n or OpenCaptain. I suppose that Dave is the definite authority on this .....

Thomas

PS. Read the posts above. It is probably a play with letters making both interpretations possible.

Ah! Finally I know what it (might?) mean

The chartplotter/navigator sounds good, plus there won't be any patent nonsense (excuse the pun!) with regards to trademarks

I just followed a reference advice I found by googling,which mentionen Pov-Ray
as one of three programs using this format.

Unfortunately,I did the same as you and can not find where this format is used.

Some mentioned it was an internal Windows function in the registry area and others that it was an outdated and old format little used?

Will keep looking. Let me know if you have any success.

Bill - ref # 208

Did you find any solution to your problem?

I still don't see how Pov-Ray can have any connection with that format.

Or why not a recursive definition in the UNIX tradition:

OpenCPN a promising exquisite new Chart Plotter and Navigator.

Hi,
attached is your file modified so that the waypoints show up in OpenCPN after import.
After downloading, rename it to somalia.gpx (remove the .doc extension)
Some GUI tool to do these modifications will be ready as soon as I come back from sailing and work the second week of July (In case Dave or someone else is not faster to implement it in OpenCPN itself faster, of course)

Does it need an explanation?

Jubilee39...

I don't see anything wrong with your GPX data by eye. I'll see what's going on under the hood and get back to you. This should work.....

jubilee39...

Its a bug in 1.3.6. Fixed in 2.1.0, releasing this weekend.

You do not need to modify your waypoint list in order to have it work OK for 2.1.0, so I suggest you simply wait a few days....

Thanks
Dave
