Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.909

1st time I found no sign of OpenCPN after the removal, and I did get the Permissions. This time it worked so it's all good.

Will give it a workout.

Thanks Roger

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.909

OA 909 installed without issues on Xperia z2 tablet.

Observations:
1) basic mode buttons keep switching places.
2) huge sector light radii results sometime when zooming and panning. The ones that become visible during panning get a large radius while those already visible remain correctly sized.
3) near the left and top screen edges red and green sector lights and the line between the two dissappear, while white sectors continue to get drawn.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.909

Hi Dave,
I install 4.1.909, no problem seen.
What can I do to activate output port on bluetooth to feed a repeater or pilot ? or when have you planned to add this function ?
Thank you

re:

This is by design. When the Action Bar space is limited, we re-arrange the icons to cause the Auto-follow, Tracking, or Route Create Icon to be always visible, depending upon which is active.

I will study the sector lights anomaly. Is there any location/chart that seems easy to reproduce the problem for you?

Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.909

I'm trying to install 4.1.909 in an Samsumg S3 Mini but only get the logo of OpenCPN with de message “Application not installed" (Simil to the RogerD report)
I do not understand that I'm doing wrong. I did the same procedure used to install version 4.1.818:

1 - Uninstall 4.1.818 (Ok - No trace of OpenCPN in the settings->Apps list..)
2 - Load 4.1.909.apk from PC via USB in “/storage/extSdCard/OpenCPN” directory.
3 - Active 4.1.909.apk with Android file manager ..
4 - Give permissions
5 - >> X Aplicación no instalada

I never thought of nor heard of this idea. Can you tell us more about your use case, please? What autopilot listens to Bluetooth? Or does it go through a mux of some sort?

Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.909

Ah, depth units showing and set under toolbox /display/unit menu is different from the vector chart settings menu located under the three dot menu. When you enter units in one, it does not change correctly in the other. I've set depth units to feet from default meters. I know darn Americans....

Appears that Vector chart settings default to meters. Though the chart is showing feet correctly.

So, when I set depths to 6,8 and 10 feet respectively under the toolbox/display/units menu, I see 2,2,3 under the vector chart settings. A minor bug.

I'm running noaa charts, BTW.

Still seems pretty stable so far otherwise.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.909

Fantastic job adding Google maps, now I can navigate overland too! THX

Google mode glitches (?) or bugs (?):

- I can get into this mode but not opt out (icons are gone),
- switching btw vertical and horizontal zooms out to the globe level,
- gps wpt is off and seems stuck (not moving when I move),
- no idea how to select normal / terrain maps (if possible).

More testing tomorrow!

(acer iconia b1, android 4.1.2)

best regards,
b.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.909

Installed 4.1.909 on Xperia Compact A 5.1.1
every things work fine so far.
Just a small detail:
when importing GPX, the file is not sorted by object name.
...difficult to find what we are looking for if there are numbers

thanks

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.909

Hi Dave,
Some explanations about my use case:

On my sail boat I have a Nasa NMEA GPS repeater in the cockpit connected to a W7 PC inside the boat by an USB to serial adapter.
This solution consumes a lot of battery, since the android solution exists I want replace my PC by an Android tablet less energy eater, but with a bluetooth connexion.

So I started to make a bluetooth connexion between PC and repeater with 2 circuits, a slave SPP bluetooth module and a RS232 converter.

On PC+OpenCPN in connexion I add a serial type on bluetooth port and checked :"output on this port(autopilot or NMEA repeater)". The repeater display all the information to steer (roadway, bearing, track,XTE,...) from RMB and RMC NMEA sentences.

On Android+OpenCPN the bluetooth connect is good but as the "output on this port" check box is grey/unchecked, nothing is sent.

I hope my answer clear
Regards

You likely already found this but for anybody else, use Android soft-key "back"

IMO,this(terrain photomaps) is enough integration with Googlemaps... I mean, if you have an android phone, and wifi, you might as well switch to GoogleMaps or OsmAnd for town navigation.

Yes, I agree that this is enough functionality for GoogleMaps but I think it will be really useful - particularly when anchoring in new anchorages.
In fact, I would like this functionality built into the desktop versions (Windows) as well.
I know that there is a GE Plugin but it seems a bit flaky and requires an old version of GE to work.
This idea that has been implemented on the Android is fast and simple.
GoogleMaps cacheing also seems to work offline when away from the internet - IMO a great new feature.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.909

Could somebody explain the correct (designed) method to enter and edit a route - the simple way.
I think it goes like this:-
1 Tap the (blue on black) route button
2 Tap for each waypoint in the route
3 Tap the (blue on yellow) route button

Then to edit
4 "Very short tap" a waypoint - it highlights
5 Drag the highlighted waypoint to a new position
6 Tap off the route to deselect the waypoint.

My observations
1 and 3 works for me every time
2 Creating the route doesn't always work - short taps and long taps.

4 seems to be a very short tap - more of a jab at the screen
It seems to work best for me if I wait about 1 second between step 4 and 5

Maybe I've not understood the concept.
Perhaps someone can point me in the correct direction
