Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.909
Just downloaded NOAA Uscg01 RNC 500+ mb and unpacked to charts on extSDcard. Opencpn scanned it and refreshed the db in relatively short time. The NE charts work well, pan, zoom etc.
Very nice. Not a toy.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.909
In some most recent versions the extended light sectors have turned opaque instead of transparent.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.909
Lepinard...
The error in the log:
Code:
OpenGL-> Framebuffer Depth Buffer Storage error
is indeed the reason that charts do not display on your device. The error code 505 translates to:
GL_OUT_OF_MEMORY.
Ultimately, the OpenGL environment required to run OpenCPN for Android cannot be configured correctly. We perhaps should detect this case and show a more user friendly message.
I have never actually seen this error reported on any device so far. What is the memory (RAM) size of your device? Online, I see various reports of 768MB or 1 GB.

Lepinard...
More info:
I just tested OA V1.0 on an old tablet with 512MB of RAM. It starts and loads fine. Performance is not great, since Android is doing a lot of app killing in the background to try and get more working space. But it does initialize and load charts.
Is this your device?

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.909
Everyone should be aware that the forums administrators have removed the daily thread for - OpenCPN for Android V1.0 Production Release despite the fact that queries and answers have been posted on it today
I am of the opinion that the number of adverse comments about the comercialisation of OPCN have necessitated this move in the hope that it will stop the posts.
It says a great deal about the openness of this forum and the right to freedom of speech and the ability to voice and register opinions.
CENSORSHIP is alive and well on this forum.

A great deal in deed. Not one of the more appealing characteristics of CF.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.909
Charging for the Software is changing the nature of OPenCPN - even if it is onle a nominal sum - it is the principle function of open source that it is free.
If OpenCPN is to become commercial b software then OpwnCPN needs to be developed commercially, the quality needs to change, the processes need to get more professional, the developers and testers need to get paid and the support needs to be provided for the software. You can't expect the open source community/forums to support your now commercial venture.
I am seriously considering my commitment to this software. There are other alternatives!

As with any commercial post, where someone offers marine items for sale on Cruisers Forum, the thread OpenCPN for Android V1.0 Production Release, was moved to the commercial forum, as per Forum rules.
