Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.909

First of all, thanks for all the good work porting OpenCPN to Android! The beta of OA is getting better all the time and now have a some features surpassing MxMariner, such as CMap93, better zoom detail on Google Satellite images and no need to convert all my BSB charts.

What I really miss is Active Captain, but I realise that this is a non-starter due to license issues, so when is the alternative Squidd.io plugun coming to OA?

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.909

Hi there,

compiling master with the latest commits (4.1.915) under Win7, VC2013, I "lost" all chart colours of the CM93.2 as soon as I turn OpenGL on ... ?
I doesn't matter if I set 2 or 4 vector chart colours ...

I have -- as ever -- Intel onboard graphics ...

I know, this is basically Android, but it still worked lately ...
This is a screenshot with OpenGL on :

And that's the same with OpenGL off (as it should be) :

Edit :
just noted that you need to set OpenGL on, then do a full restart, and then the colours are back ...
Strange ...

BR,

Thomas

vincent... I'm not sure I understand what you are asking for. The only position on these pictures is the last one since a GPS was connected, or mouse right click - move boat to here.

As soon as I can figure out how to make apk for a plugin I will do so for several plugins, possibly including squiddio.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.909

Xcode 7.0 is said to have closed several security holes. Xcode 7.0 is for free download since yesterday. Compiling the current OpenCPN code with Xcode 7.0 shows dozens of new potential memory leaks now in main code and plugins code. Such leaks are known as gateway for hackers.

Oh dear, Carcode. Can you help us close them? It would help us all and you are good at this, just be gentle, witty and humorous..
Sean we would love to see squiddio on android when you get to it, and of course my favorites, weather_routing and climatology, when grib becomes android too.

The new Xcode 7.0 has nothing to do with Android. I use it to compile the current OCPN code 4.1.915 and plugins for Mac OS X. Xcode compiles code with different languages like Objective-C, Swift, C or C++ to executabeles for the Apple operating systems OS X, iOS or WatchOS.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.909

Lepinard, I just have 7-8 charts from Noaa of bsb type loaded on my extSDcard to start.
I would not bog down your install with CM93 or all your charts. It is a little android cpu, sure quadcore, but small, so start out slowly, otherwise SENC files and Update DB will take a very long time.

Try getting back to original install, by delete app and reinstall. Make sure you can see continent outlines. Then try installing a few BSB charts, point your chart directory to that and wait. I had to wait a little for just 7-8 charts...

CM93 works like a charm on a low cpu samsung GT-S7710 - Android 4.1.2. This old device has no problems operating with a full CM93 chart installed. Tested on 4.1.909 and latest "production" release.

What are the thoughts here about having to pay $ to use OpenCPN moving forward?

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.909

First I do not know nothing about Android.
Second I have seen however such heavy code changes and supplements only for this Android version.
So I voted times ago for a standalone program with separate code and not merged together with the code for PC's. This way they can do what they want with the Android part. It doesn't bother me.
Hopefully some more people second this point of view. It always takes some time until developers understand what the users want. Best example are the Redmond people which finally comes back with the start menu.
