IMO,this(terrain photomaps) is enough integration with Googlemaps... I mean, if you have an android phone, and wifi, you might as well switch to GoogleMaps or OsmAnd for town navigation.
As you said soft back button does the job. THX

Should the 'wpt' tick be moving along as I stroll? I get a fine red Google pinpoint in the picture but it seems stuck. Maybe I have to move by x distance to get it going anyway. I will test this later too.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.909

Hi Dave,
I have been using OA 41909 Beta whilst sailing the last couple of days. Works great but nevertheless a few minor observations:

1. Slider for User Interface scale factor
On my smartphone (Samsung GT S7710) precise adjustment of the slider for "User Interface scale factor" (in "Settings"- "User Interface") with your (well, my) fingertip is very difficult when used in portrait mode. In portrait mode the slider jumps either completely to the left or completely to the right. The problem was solved by rotating the phone 90 degrees to landscape mode (with "screen rotation" ticked in the Android settings). In landscape mode the slider worked fine. Maybe a hardware issue on the smartphone because I found no problems on my Samsung 7.7 Tablet.

2. Mouse
I could only try a mouse on my tablet. Left-click works O.K. and scrollwheel works O.K. for zooming in and out. Right-click and click on mousewheel terminates OA though.

3. Status bar text/background
The status bar with SOG & COG has black text on grey background. Looks good and is easy on the eyes but I found it hard to read in bright daylight conditions (on my small "dinghy with a lid" I use my smartphone in the cockpit). The easiest solution would be to stop sailing on sunny days , the other might be to use another text/background combination (maybe green text on a black background, just as in the navigate-console?).
I'd vote for the second option. And will post this also in the Feature Requests-thread.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.909

All... Now even I have got me used tablet, a Samsung Galaxy 10.1 with A 4.01. Dave's .apt OA 4.1.909 is successfully installed and the default inbound GPS connection works great. Chart was copied from my PC, via the USB cable, and everything is so far great. Fantastic!

But who am I to let my Win sleep? I also installed a VNC viewer to see the PC screen where all NMEA connections, Simrad-net, AIS, compass, radar etc, are connected. The Android-VNC is good, better than the Ripple. If I like to save power I can close the PC lid and use the tablet and VNC instead.

Next power saving project would be to make a Raspberry_pi to act as a NMEA multiplexer to the wire-less and use OCPN on the tablet.

Many thanks
Håkan

This is by design. When the Action Bar space is limited, we re-arrange the icons to cause the Auto-follow, Tracking, or Route Create Icon to be always visible, depending upon which is active.

I will study the sector lights anomaly. Is there any location/chart that seems easy to reproduce the problem for you?

Thanks
Dave
Dave,

Thanks for advising about the dynamic button feature. Could it be made active only when real estate is an issue or as an option?

First sector issue is the premature dissapearing near the left and top screen edges. When enc text is toggled on they do not dissapear. See pics in the Northern Sardegna.

The abnormally large sectors appear after visiting the setting menu and adjusting the display scale factor followed by immediate panning. This happens everywhere I have tested.

This is normally fixed via the status bar plugin, so maybe it can soon work on android.

In Win-XP VS2010:
Tidal symbols are shown as colored squares instead of graphics. The color changes on different zoom levels. In close zoom the tidal bar is however correct.
See attached pictures showing different zoom levels.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.909

Not with Mac OS X at any zoom level.
Have you tried other styles like traditional style and also tried quilting on/off or OpenGL on/off to narrow your faulty screen behavior with XP?

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.909

Gerhard, @ all...
Good comments. Result:
Journeyman style:
OpenGL off - correct symbol graphics. OpenGL on - colored squares
Journeyman flat style:
OpenGL off - correct symbol graphics. OpenGL on - colored squares
Traditional style:
OpenGL off - correct symbol graphics. OpenGL on - colored squares

Edit:
And quilting on/off still colored squares although the color changes while switching on/off
Any suggested fixes to try??

Thanks/Håkan

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.909

This is a recent problem introduced from
fb19fcc0b62b558cb9a996cc8bd61cfb668d9f15

I made a comment in github that it breaks on hardware which doesn't support npot.

Hakan/Sean...

Corrected in github master now. Also, an improvement to NextPow2(int size).

Thanks

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.909

Some information for Mac OS X users:
I have had a severe crash with OS X file system obviously initialized from OpenCPN. It may be however I'm the only one because I use wxWidgets 3.1 and not 3.0.
What has happened?
The opencpn.ini file was so bad destroyed that the OS X filesystem cannot find anymore folders and files. Very strange behavior because nothing can be started anymore and nothing can be wrote to the harddrive anymore. Only the busy ball was shown. Happily I quickly guessed what has happened and found the broken opencpn.ini file. I was able to restore the opencpn.ini file because I have a Time Machine. However I was not able to save the broken opencpn.ini file for later investigations. When I tried so each time the computer freeze.
My assumption is that the OS filesystem destroyed the file once because I heavily test OpenCPN always and each run rewrites this files.

I remember now years ago I've had a similiar problem with the Logbook Koni plugin. This plugin also rewrites permanently some files when activated.
