It is always difficult to follow the commits. I count 53 new commits since 4.1.818 and after nearly each commit you have to test the whole program for new errors. Too often after a new commit other things doesn't work anymore which has been OK earlier.

Gerhard..
Very good, it would be a trace for the programmers.
The fact that a change somewhere unintentional affects other functions is a common issue in the world of code writing, isn't it. This fantastic forum community is the place where bug finding efforts is performed as voluntarily as the code writing itself. Each of us does there best to cover as much they can dependent available time and joy. I, and probably many others, use to test functions I normally use and in the end a big part of the program is covered. All together makes OCPN to the best navigational tool ever made, right??

Thanks/Håkan

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.818

Hakan,
my impression is that the goal to make run OpenCPN on any hardware and any OS has reached its limits now. The code becomes more and more unreadable. I vote for a separation at least for the Android trunk.

Gerhard..
Ok......"I hear what you say" But as long as we can have one program for all environment it's a very great asset. And for me the code has always been unreadable apart from certain small parts.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.818

just a weird note per Lollipop, exporting a gpx.

Oa exported the gpx but no way I could find it ...

it went to the "emulated" place. (aargh) so using a file manager, I copied it to a "real place".
Plugged phone into a PC.... where is it? (aargh2)
Reboot phone. Aha. There it is. Android? bah! Microsoft is looking good again.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.818

First, thanks Dave for your time, patient and work.

I have tested the app during a week at sea, and it is good enough for sailing.
Nautical charts: RNC: KAP/BSB, ENC: S57, CM93
Installed on three devices:
  1. bq Aquarius 4.5 Smartphone. Android 4.1.1 --> OK
  2. Samsung Core GT-I8260 Smartphone. Android 4.1.2 --> cannot see the nautical charts, the combobox do not appear.
  3. Samsung galaxy tab2 7 TABLET. Android 4.0 --> OK

Some known bugs.
Sometimes, the CPU was heated too much, and in some cases the device was freezed.
Problems when try to access to the tidal graph.

Regards,
Andrés

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.818

Been continuing to test on Galaxy S3, Teb and Xephiria -

I have noticed an inconsistency between the 'advanced' menu and the Android dropdown. If I change settings in the Android drop down the program uses these settings but they are not reflected in the 'Advanced' settings when I open this - mostly around Vector charts, their Zoom scale and 'Mariners Standard' display.

Similarly If I change the settings in using advanced settings - again Open CPN uses the settings but they are not reflected in the Android dropdown.

Also I would like the Status Bar to show the LAT/LONG of the current location of the cursor so I know where I am when passage planning or looking at a chart feature. Perhaps also display Lat/Long on the grid as well? On the PC version I can use a plugin but on a Smartphone I think there will not be sufficient screen space

Finally When using a Bluetooth mouse with a tablet - there is no way to Zoom in/Out. You would expect to be able to use the wheel (as per Google Maps say) but this is not recognised by OP.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.818

I managed to reproduce the scaling problem. After a serious overlooking, some, but not all, objects scale incorrectly. See pics.
The second picture is after closing and restarting O.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.818

Hi,

I was out sailing last week using 818 on Win7, compiled release with VC2013.
I found 3 issues ...
1) is already adressed by Hakan : Object query on CM93.2 is empty.
2) with OpenGL on, the actual track is not "red" anymore, but has the default track color (for old tracks). With OpenGL off, current track is shown in red color again. I have Intel onboard graphics, on my Fujitsu M9410 laptop.
3) I cannot switch from CM93.2 to BSB raster charts anymore. Whenever I move the mouse over the (correctly visible) chartbar it disappears. No chance to click ...
I'm using the same charts than ever, installed in a separate directory.
A complete rebuilt of the chart db didn't help.

For me in the same VS2013 compiled, the chart bar doesn't disappear but
O crashes
I think it comes from the commit
"Improve performance of loading raster charts" introduced on 11 august

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.818

I've VS2013 build running in W7 and W10 using both CM93 & BSB rasters. No problem but once during this beta updates I had to a) empty the raster cache and b) delete what was present in the ...\program data\opencpn\cm93\*.* and let O rebuild.
And BTW, I always builds the Package and install the new version that way so all dependences are updated as well.

^ you guys.
What are you talking about? Why are you in the Android Beta thread?
Unless you are all running emulators? Or I am guessing the version numbers of BetaComputer O and Beta Android O are the same?

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.818

A couple of general Android O complaints:

Zooming in or out with pinching fingers is not as good as using the + - on the Advanced toolbar.
Pinching in (+)makes everything grow big, and then shrink back and then jerk in againto settle. Likewise out (-)

tiny checkboxes: The first time I tried to manipulate vector chart settings in Mariner's Standard it was as difficult on a 7" Lenovo tablet (a4.0.1) as the tiny 4" Acer (A5.0) ...It is odd that the checkboxes are just as small and un-settable on the 7" screen. SOMETIMES I could tap them 10 times (with a tablet pen-thing) and they wouldn't clear or fill.
For some reason the behaviour improves on subsequent setting after a restart of OA. Perhaps my conf file is getting barnacles on it since I stopped scraping at it with a text editor...
Also, the dialogue window itself can "get away" or drag the "mother window" into a scroll too.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.818

1. does not apply the font color for the Console Legend, Console Value
2. When you hide the dashboard, window Compass / GPS status does not stick to the upper corner of the screen.
