Unfortunatly not !
From Tablet's options :
- I deleted the OA caches, the OA data,
- then I "desinstalled" OA
From a file-explorer :
- I deleted the dir : /SD0/opencpn (and its log, conf, and so)
- I deleted : /SD0/Android/data/org.opencpn.opencpn

Then I launched the OA.4.1.8.apk
and accepted to "install" it

Rappel : LENOVO A5500F - Android 4.2.2

This time too I have no text (CM93)
All/everything work quite/very slowly (seems to run slowlier than under 4.1.7) -- long tap on a waypoint - single tap then drag - long tap on screen/chart - single tap on icon fron "normal" oCPN toolbar - etc.

Anchorage alert : not working
see capture : Click image for larger version

(GPS not yet actived in OA)

Once GPS is runing ... :
- no possibility to drop the boat where I want (Move Boat Here)
- sound(*) and flash work as attempted

(*) wav sound from my own collection and copied in
/sd_1/openCPN/SOUNDS

I restarted the tablet ... all work better !!
The texts of vector charts are there !
!! single tap not working better ...
- on icon [key] ... which is too long
.. (about 1 or more second to be pressed)
.. Ha! No! Just the icon doesn't pass in grey mode..
.. then I just have to wait the form to be displayed
- on a WP :
.. brief tap (not so "brief": at least 1/2") --> 1" waiting ... the yellow mark!

I could import a GPX file ! Yeah ! Great !
Have to try with one more ...

You must have the charts in a directory somewhere in your tablet and tel to OA where it can find those charts :
tool "key" (in toolbar)
tab [Charts]
... [Chart Files] / Add Directory ---> the dir with your charts ---> [OK]

(personaly I had to restart the tablet to get the texts of charts displayed)

The tool [key] isn't visible in the Toolbar ?
Long press on that bar, a menu is displayed where you can active/unactive the tool-buttons you want
Unfortunatly mine tempts to close before I can valid an item :-(
Unfortunately, mine is closed after the choice (choice once at a time)

Yes, Smox. I notice that too. It is a shorter time than last beta allowed. I think.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.818

Build errors in Win now corrected and builds fine - Thanks

Hopefully relevant I persist to test all new code also in Windows.
A question:

I suppose OA should read "OpenCPN-Androids" - So the chart downloader is not implemented for Win - or?
Also I can't find "Expert settings" in Win, that's correct? (Sorry, I haven't followed all Android discussions. Still in hold of an ancient PC )

Thanks/Håkan

This is correct - Android requires a different approach to plug-ins.
And it is not thought/designed to be multi-window, so plug-ins using pop-up windows for settings or those which are keeping some windows open have to be re-designed.
If you deal with small screens some plug-ins will not work well neither.
(different when you use Android on a 49"-66" inch TV)

Why exactly can plugins not use pop-up windows? I know android doesn't intend multi-window, but Qt does, so we have this functionality.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.818

Sean...

1. Simple geometry. Even though the pixel resolution is adequate, the physical screen sizes are simply too small to support a desktop metaphor. By the time the fonts, bitmaps, etc are reduced in size enough to get meaningful content in the popup, they are just too small to read and operated on average telephones. Marginally better on 7-10" tablets, I'll agree.

2. To support dragging/resizing/switching of popup dialogs on Android, we would need to create and promulgate a new user interface model. We have done this (after a fashion) for the toolbar dialog. But it is distinctly non-Android, so non-intuitive to users.

3. All this does not preclude Android PlugIns. It just means that our existing PlugIns will need a UI makeover to be usable on the target platform.

I know how to insert the card, but the CM93 can not see them.
I put other cards format KAP (nv charts) and I see them, but does not work well, it is very slow, very slow indeed

You can kindly explain step by step how you integrate the CM93 and all the steps and buttons in vector chart display to click?

I use tablet samsung tab 3

Very Thank and sorry mine inglish, i am italien
ciao

I suppose that "toolbar" is what I call the menubar (the bar with new icons upside the chart viewport).

Is it studied the possibility to hide that menu-tool-bar not so useful ?
and by the fact having the viewport extended over that bar (and, why not, over the Android buttons-bar and infos-options-bar)

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.818

Ha ! OK you could see the CM93 with the previous version of OA, and not more with the actual one.

Did you tell/remember to OA where these vector charts are stocked ?
Did you restart your tablet ?

My tablet accepts extra SD card
also, personally, on my home computer, I copied my original folder CM93 with its charts on a SDHC 32Go micro-card, I did same for some Routes and Traces, raster charts and the OA.apk that I downloaded on my computer.
Once having deleted everything I thought be of OA.4.1.7, I installed the OA.4.1.8.
I did also what I ask you above.

cm93 charts seems to work fine (so well as usually) on My Lenovo A5500F (1Gb/16Gb - 8" IPS - Android 4.4.2)

Sorry I'm french ;-)

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.818

Minor old issues just so they stay on the list....

...with UserIcons. The list that icon choices appear on includes one, maybe two of mine. Once I choose one, I can then ,later, choose one of my own.

and OpenCPN's icon is not "Persistent " on a "desktop " when the phone/tablet is rebooted. Not alone in this- some "UserDownloaded" apps disappear too.

...and, sometimes, one icon on the advanced toolbar gets tiny after being invoked. I am trying to figure out just when this happens because it doesn't always.
