Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.718

Using this on Samsung S6 and Samsung Tab S - android 5.02, I was using a Sony Xephira as well but this in now on the bottom somewhere :-(

Find the experience too difficult on the S6 but very good on the larger screen of the TAB.

Issue I have has in this and the last betas and I have been using this at sea, is that in Settings 'Expert Mode' I cannot select or deselect the checkboxes - they are just too small to select.

There are also still issues redrawing the charts - sometimes the redraw is incomplete and I need to force it to do it again by resizing or moving the chart. Not yet figured out how to reproduce this regularly although it happens often. Will continue to play.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.718

I agree with your observation about size of check boxes.
Sitting still at a desk or in a chair, I can press it with reasonable accuracy but underway my accuracy is abysmal.

Note sure if this was directed to me, so I'm attempting to attach a screen print of my ATT LG 7inch Android tablet showing the top / bottom 1/4 inch.

Hope this is useful.

The bottom 1/4 inch has the Back, Home, Current Apps, and Split screen buttons on my ATT tablet.

It's this bottom edge that remains bright even after using the Day / Night icon.

Thanks, I appreciate the note.

If it comes down to rendering the toolbar in opengl or providing the option for the user to define which icons show at the top of the screen, my vote (FWIW) would be to have the icons at the top. As the space available to use OpenCPN's functionality shrinks, the ability to re-use the same real estate for different purposes increases.

I am using a low-cost ATT LG 7 inch Android tablet.

Does pinch and zoom work on the size of menu text?

I went back and tested this, and it's not working the way I am reading your note.

Can you confirm we're using the same steps?
- open OA,
- display nav chart, any scale should do,
- press and continue to press the nav chart on any open space until what would normally be the right click menu appears,
- pinch inside the menu and zoom.

Does the size of the menu text increase or does the chart zoom in?

On mine, the chart zooms in.

On a moving boat, I'm hitting the proper menu item less than half the time.

Feature Request; add 'Navigate to this' feature allowing user to quickly define and activate a new route while underway, ie drop a mark, long press then activate navigate to the mark from current position.
Played with OA a bit more at a desk to get the steps down, then went back out on a moving boat to re-test.

Re: Route & Track Manager's ability to create a waypoint and then activate 'Go to this' item.
Not sure how I missed this, but this works well. Size of icons / menu items is an issue.

Re: MOB Icon not displaying popup.
This was also PEBKAC error (maybe in tablet world, this is PEBFAT...problem exists between fingertip and tablet).

Re: Drop Mark feature
Another user error, the 'Navigate to this' option is available, albeit difficult to reliably hit proper menu item.

Earlier Beta still had network connection options. Is that gone, or just moved somewhere else?

thanks

<...apologies if this is a double post, I lost my wifi connection mid-submit...>

Does the pinch-zoom feature enlarge the text of the menu option ?

If I am reading your reply correctly, we should be able to activate the pop up menu by long-pressing the chart in an open spot, then pinch inside the resulting list, and zoom the size of the text by expanding your fingertips.

I am using an ATT LG 7 inch Android, about as small a screen as I can imagine using while underway. When doing the above, the chart zooms in underneath the popup menu, the text of the menu items does not increase in size.

On a related note, the Enable / Disable Tracking icon at the top of the form does not change color similar to the Auto Follow icon, to indicate when tracking has been toggled.

I'm using it...
Expert mode / Add connection. You might have to scroll/pan down to see the entries. Happened to me the first time ...

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.718

Thanks BCN, that's it. I missed the "expert mode" setting - I don't think it is intuitive to have to set that in "Display" when looking for a connection. Anyway, pleased it's still there!
Thanks again,
Matt

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.718

When I was looking for it it took me as well a while to discover the option.

First: I understand that Dave does not want to make the option too prominent.
Second: if somebody has a better idea where to place it ....

Third: We really need somebody who starts to document this stuff for the Wiki. If somebody did not catch it: Thomas will not be available with the same dedication anymore. So help is asked for.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.718

I have searched but am unable to locate this: "install latest beta over existing install." Is there a post that addresses this? Thank you and apologize if I missed the mark.

I second the observation of the "show grid" behavior.
