SuperUser is an application that's installed when rooting an android device. This is accomplished in two ways. Either the application is downloaded from Google Play and installed by the user by tapping on the app icon, or is installed along with a custom ROM which requires no action by the user. EXCEPT, once installed it is necessary to tick the right settings in order for your device root to be enabled. If installed by a user with the SuperUser app the settings are accessed by opening the app, scrolling waaaay down and enabling "Pro" SuperUser.

If your device has a custom ROM that included SuperUser you access the SuperUser settings by opening the device "Settings" app, locate the "#superuser" options in the same way you'd do so with "Wifi" options and tap on SuperUser to access the settings. Access the settings by tapping on the three vertical dots and enable under "MultiUser Policy" "All Apps can request Superuser". If you do not have the settings right you will have file access and write problems...

The link was to information about your tablet. Warnings and such. Not stuff to do.

I really shouldn't have mentioned this phone here, because...well, it's not a good beta-tester phone, being off the Normal Usr track. Once a phone is wHacked, it's on its own, eh?
But that said, it does appear to be working ok and fairly normally. It was very cheap but I only had to do some twiddly-tinkery repairs to it ...

Yes,Wrong. I have all that happening.... and Indeed I have seen the BigRedWarning.
Plus, when I see that there are 315 pages in a "Noob Friendly" thread, I also take that as a "warning"

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.718

Cheeky request. I have installed AOCPN on my Hudl 2 and it runs (can't remember which beta but not important). Bought a 32Mb sd card and loaded CM93 on it. IF I go to Tools, Charts I don't know the precise name of the folder to point OCPN to. How do I find out the exact name, please?

Probably /mnt/sdcard1/CM93
Whether it is 'CM93' or not will depend on what your chart folder was named when you copied to the 32Mb card...

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.718

New Crash issue in Windows, XP and W7, when changing "Texture compression with Caching" - mode.

The code is from yesterday but I've not tested this before so the time of bug implementation is unknown.

Method for recurrence:
Tools > Display > Advanced > (Use .. OpenGL is checked) > Options... > check or uncheck "Texture compression with Caching" > Button "Ok" ---- Crash.
So, it's not the texture compression function itself creating the crash but the method to change the setting. Once set or not set, in the config file, the texture compression is working.

Log file:
After this crash the log file's last entry is always like: "10:01:03: Detected display size (horizontal): 331 mm"

Crash reports are available if required, please advice.

After today's Github pull and built this issue seems to be fixed. So far only tested in XP, so I'll revert if it's not also fixed in W7.
Thanks

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.718

Don't know if my own experience will be of some interest ...

OA 4.1.718 + charts cm93
LENOVO A5500-F (QuadCore 1.3Mhz - 1Go/16Go - 1280/800 - GPS)
Android : 4.4.2

See screen-capture.

I don't understand the utility of the heading menu-bar ...
(or the title-bar ? with its menu in 1/2 icons 1/2 text)
That bar only eats much space for nothing (or so)
instead extending window chart all over the screen
I've seen another appli (Weather 4D) that on double-tap on screen passes from window+menu-bar+android-toolbars to fullscreen and back, couldn't we get same/similar feature with OA ?
The option in User's Interface to show/hide that "menu-bar" doesn't work

All seems to work fine (except points below)(and above !!!)
- grid
- toolbar
- charts (vector ones)
- with popup menu or forms : no pinch possible so Ol Korrect

On the awakening of the tablet, OA needs significant time to awake (the map is displayed but nothing works, then, after a while, the App reloads)

About OA ToolBar : (not OA menubar)
==================

Icon Size
With icons at 100% on user interface scale factor,
OK
UISF is at 60% for me (to get on 1 line in portrait mode the 10 icons I use)

Zoom in / out icon
Works well, few seconds on 1st action, then a bit faster.

Scale in / out chart icon *
not used.

Create Route icon
OK.

Auto Follow icon
OK.

Wrench (options) icon
Difficulties with check-boxes and their labels are inefficient.
... Ooops ! They are !!! But with a (significant) delay
Last line too close the bottom of forms.

ENC Text (toggle text on charts)
I had to wait a very long time the appli thought it is time to work
(no text during the 2 or 4 first tests)

AIS target *
Not tested/used

Currents and Tides *
Not tested/used

Printer *
Not tested/used

Route & Track Manager
Inport GPX doesn't work (files *.gpx)
(from copied old routes, made on oCPN.3, on the additionnal SD)
Not tested export

Toggle Tracking
not yet tested the tracks.

Day / Night Mode and Tablet Brightness *
Never used.

Help About *
No problems

MOB Icon
Not tested.

(*) icons that I hid

About forms :
=============

Form about AIS:
The form (files explorer ?) to get/set a file (ie: sound) not adapted.
Not seen how to reach my rep of sounds on additional SD.
(except if the sounds have to be moved manually in the right OA's rep ?)
(don't remember the way to do in a "normal" oCPN)
(anyway sounds not working better on my Mac and oCpn 3.2)
Question: format of sound files ? wav? ogg? ... ?

Form [PROPERTIES] (of a waypoint)
- scrolling down
the tabs (Basic, Descr, Extd) keep in place
but not the title of the form (Properties) (of what ???)
- rings color
once, by chance, I had the possibility to choice here a color
while I see nothing (except the label 'Color') for this feature
- about waypoint for anchorage :
nammed in negative value works (as on 'normal' oCPN)
while positive value doesn't : continuous alarm (boat inside or not)
Alarm only "visual" and blink per minute

About the "right clic" :
========================

Waypoint:
Moving a waypoint once dropped : clic, then maimtain clic and drag

Contextual menu :
long clic, hop!
... understood nothing with those menus ... especially the one about waypoint
- once : menu about the waypoint without anchorage
- once : menu without anchorage choice

Not easy to get the general popup menu

SMOX....

Thanks for the detailed feedback on OA. Its this sort of report that really provides some actionable items. Some of your comments have been already addressed in the next Beta, due soon now. Others I will investigate.

I'm trying to figure out how it happens but so far, all I can say is that it's a stressful life for a beta....

PS.
...I know Man Overboard is useful but not so important when you are sailing alone . I'd have it in the pushnhold menu rather than as immoveable object everywhere, reminding me of my mortality...

as to the advanced floating toolbar, it is much improved when auto-hide (5 seconds) is invoked....but can be a nuisance at times when it gets unanchored from it's usual spot and I don't think really needs to be moveable on android...?

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.718

Happy...

I occasionally see the "fuzzy chart" effect as well. I have not been able to isolate what causes it, nor reproduce it reliably....

I think I feel the same about MOB icon. Takes up valuable space. I may make this a configurable feature for Android.

Anyone else have opinions on the MOB?

Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.718

Dave, by the way, I remembered to sniff around for some tombstones on the Galaxy Note 1..

SamsungNoteTombstones.zip.doc

Sorry, can't recall what I was doing to crash it to produce these, but I recall my posting per that I could not get any charts without editing the conf manually...

Anyways, at least I know where they are and how to get them and here's the proof.

Haven't been able to yet on the z220(unrooted)

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.718

In Windows:
A partial update of the chart issue:
Sometimes is the squared chart surface beneath and slightly around a dialog frame the only part of the chart screen that is updated, the rest is frozen until the whole canvas is updated by, for example, a OCPN windows resize. (Mouse dragging) When this freezing occurs zooming In/Out is only affecting the small square that's still alive.
For example when using the BR24radar_pi menu dialog form this freeze occurs frequently but I've seen it also without using the radar plugin so I have the feeling it's not just connected to the plugin, but more some wxWidgets-3 implications?

The Dashboard form is not creating this effect so there must be a difference.

Is there anyone else having seen this or has some tips.
