Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.718

Rick...

You should know by now...

OCPN Betas are not suitable for critical navigation. Ever.

However, underway testing of Betas is a good thing, when conditions allow. And we really could use bug reports that have more info than: "it crashed".

Enjoy the summer cruising...

Understood. Will have to strip down the plugins and devices. Then test it. Could not do so at the time. V4.1.602 ran very well but did not support AIS or the larger tool icons for tablets, under Win 8.1 os

Compiled v4.1.718 * master 0154474 [ahead 95] Improve depth unit emboss font selection logic. and did clean install. No devices used.

The program is not hanging up on startup and seems to work reasonably well the short time I have used it. I believe the cause of the problem was the AIS connection or signals which v4.1.718 does not seem to have operational (probably intentionally due to Android development).

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.718

Tests AIS/718
1)Under Windows 8.1 I noticed any problem. This version shows targets correctly, no hang, no crash as far as I tested.
2) Under Android Z3 compact A 5.0.2
connection:
- wifi hosted network output on my W8.1 device
- wifi input from the hosted network above
this configuration has been tested with 630 and worked well
with 718 /
when starting with WIFI activated in this condition AO hang for a moment then works well, but no AIS target visible, no AIS message in the debug window
If I open options dialogue and I deactivate + reactivate the AIS connection, OA hangs then crashes
If I do the same process with WIFI deactivated, no problem.
see shots of W8.1 and AO connection parameters

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.718

BCN Thanks, so now we know what is possible re AIS. Are the enlarged tablet Toolbar Icons working for you?

--Also I had monkeyed with the USB Ais to see if I could get it working. Disabled the USB, removed it, then reinstalled, then checked Device Manager > USB and COM. Perhaps Opencpn v4.1.718 did not like that. However I shut down normally, rebooted and started O and it was still grumpy, not panning & scrolling right, not devouring charts as normally, and then finally it disappeared from the screen.

I gave up and went to 4.0 at that point. --Yes, I knew the waters, but it took awhile to get O 4.0 started up again. However this is sooo much better than our 1.5" dia color screen on the Garmin Colorado it is amazing. O while underway has changed our cruising for the better, but don't get to used to it, keep good practices and a sharp lookout.

Will have to try AIS w 4.1.718 again

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.718

Hi,
I have been trying to run 718 on Linux with the s63 plugin. Under OCPN 4.0.0 the s63 plugin works fine and the charts all show. Under 718 the charts are recognised and can be installed, but when I try to see them OCPN crashes. I have run 718 as both a standard install and a portable install with the same results. I have used both 1.03 and 1.04 of the OCPNsenc file, but it makes no difference. I have tried recompiling the s63_pi, but with no luck either.

I get the following information when the crash occurs:
Code:
(opencpn:7898): Gdk-CRITICAL **: IA__gdk_drawable_get_image: assertion 'GDK_IS_DRAWABLE (drawable)' failed

(opencpn:7898): Gdk-CRITICAL **: IA__gdk_image_get_colormap: assertion 'GDK_IS_IMAGE (image)' failed

(opencpn:7898): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion 'G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed
The program 'opencpn' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation)'.
  (Details: serial 16592 error_code 11 request_code 53 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)
I am running this on Linux Mint 17.1 with XFCE as the desktop manager, the kernel reports:
Code:
Linux mishka 3.13.0-37-generic #64-Ubuntu SMP Mon Sep 22 21:28:38 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.718

Jon,

in this moment there is no S-63 PI for the 4.1.x series.

Work in progress, remember that 4.1.x requires wxWidgets 3. and the PI is compiled for the 4.0 series.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.718

Jon,
you can try to compile s63_pi yourself with wxWidgets > 2.8 using the actual senc file 1.04. It should work. The sources are here: https://github.com/bdbcat/s63_pi.git

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.718

Gerhard,
I did that before reporting the error and got the same result. I am using wxWidgets 3.0.2 (its what I am using for the ocpn_draw_pi). I thought it may have been the problem, but it was not. I will try again tomorrow on a linux virtual machine to see if it works or not.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.718

Jon,
there might have been some changes for s63_pi with wx 3.0. The OS X version has always used wx 3.0. I use wx 3.1. You may have a look here:

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.718

I have been testing build 4.1.718 on a Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 with both raster charts and Cm93. I am quite impressed by the speed, even with full details enabled on vector charts.

I have found one consistent issue: if the boat has any speed, OCPN locks up as soon as it attempts to plot the position. As long as the boat position is off the chart or there is no speed, all is fine. Maybe an issue with plotting the vector?
As the screen freezes and the application doesn't exit, only option left seems to be killing it.

This happens with both Android 5.0.1 and 4.4.2.

Gerhard,
I have tried on my virtual linux box and found a few errors which I have fixed up. But when trying to display the charts I get a crash. Here is the information from my debug environment.

Not sure if that is going to help any, but....

The fixes I have been doing are to the printf statements to correct the sizes (the debug environment complains if unsigned ints are put into ints, etc). I have also submitted a patch to allow spaces in file names for unix (it was there for Mac and Win).

John...
This seems that the VirtualBox OpenGL driver crashes. Weird thing is that in a call to something as simple as
Code:
glBegin( GL_LINES );
