Hello petter5,
Well, youre not the only one with that problem. On my GT-S7710 OpenCPN worked really fine last monday (01-06-2015) but 2 days later I got only that message "OpenCPN has stopped" and the option to press "OK" (although imho it was everything but OK). I uninstalled, re-installed, installed newest version but whatever I tried, I could not get Opencpn to start. First I blamed the phone but the same phenomenon occurred on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7. Really don't know what to do now...

Dave....

not exactly:
today restarting the Tab (and OCPN):
- CM93 at boat position
- panning to Bordeaux
- zooming in CM93 until 1:1000 aprox.
- on the chart piano appears the InENC
- clicking on it will change to "vector" from "CM93" with resulting black chart canvas (remember: menus and bars are visible still)

to recover: zoom out a lot, pan so that the InENCs disappear from the piano, restart OCPN

In case I missed something: is there an "Exit OCPN" hidden at some place?

Wow this is GREAT! So glad to see this coming out for Android! I don't have dropbox but I found the download link on the OCPN site for this beta and I can't wait to try it out! Thanks to the developer! I know it must be a real pain to get this working on so many different devices so your efforts are really appreciated. I'll post my initial experiences with the app on my note 3 and note 4 in a few days.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.630

I got this Beta test today.
It works smoothly on my Nexus 10, much more smoothly than the Alfa test I had installed before.

I'm checking all the function at home with internal gps. Every thing works till now. I will check ais connection in the next weeks when I'll be onboard.
I just can't remove the depth's unit from the display. I tried both on a regular menu and via the expert mode, but no luck. I know it is not a big issue, just to share.
Great work.
Andrea

Sounds like an ownership or permissions issue. Check both for OpenCPN using FX file manager. Could be your system changed one or both.

Odd.

Where has OpenCPN installed to?

Still sounds like a permissions issue to me. Are you running Lollipop?

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.630

Wow. This is really good.

Look ahead mode is good but it would be fantastic if the moving map display stayed on after hitting the boat icon to centre the chart on my position, then panning my position anywhere I choose on the screen. As long as I still apear on the screen, the chart still moves. The icon in the top right stays lit unless I pan myself off the screen. In which case I need to repeat the process? Hope that makes sense.
Just got to work out how to wifi or bluetooth AIS targets.
Looking forward to the next leg of our voyage to trial it further

Hopefully Dave can comment on the permissions above.

The remaining question is why the OpenCPN app is not launching. Go to /data/app & check permissions on the apk...

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.630

Petter5, and others running Android 4.1.2....

I think I have resolved the problem with OCPN startup on these devices. At least, it now starts OK on my emulators after a small modification.

To save some time, and avoid a short test cycle, I have placed a test version of OCPN 4.1.630 on dropbox for your quick test.

This image has some new stuff implemented and fixed. However, at this point I just want to prove that it starts and runs on those devices that have had trouble with the existing 4.1.630 Beta.

Here is the link.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/q09jbw0xvi...debug.apk?dl=0

The file is freshly uploaded today, 4 July 2105.

We will have a new official Beta in a couple of days. so please confine your comments on this quick test to no-start conditions, or other severe problems.

Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.630

Many thanks for the Android port to Dave and others involved. I can see this being a very important tool!

I'm successfully running OA v 4.1.630 on a Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 that has previously been rooted. Android is KitKat 4.4.2.
OA gets its position from the internal GPS with no problems.

However I do have a question:
Is there an application similar to kplex for Android that will clean NMEA 0183v4 tags?

I'd like to access Furuno Navnet NMEA 0183 data on OA via wifi but am having problems.
What I have done so far:
1. On a Linux box, I use kplex to strip off the NMEA 0183v4 tags, making these cleaned NMEA sentences available on my network.
2. I have been successful in accessing this 0183 data on OA when the linux box is running (other than "FS#1816 - Orange Screen on zooming in when AIS targets displayed" reported in the tracker).

I'd rather not have the Linux box running but understand that kplex is not available for Android.
Does anyone know of an application which will run on an Android system and will strip off the NMEA 0183v4 tags from NMEA data?

Thanks
Neil

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.630

Sorry for the delay, here is the new log (opencpn crashed just as before):

It looks awfully similar to the first one...

BTW, I deleted the opencpn folder with the log inside. It took a couple of tries to start opencpn to get the folder and the log recreated.
