Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.630

Happy/Hapless....

Still confused. I think I do not really understand your device environment.

Do you have a File manager on your device, like say Fx?
What does he say about the location of UserIcons that works?

Did you install/move the app to sdcard?

May I see your logfile? Where is the logfile, in device file structure context?

Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.630

Yes, I have a file manager called "TotalCommander". It finds opencpn's "user data folder" here:
"/storage/emulated/0/Android/data/org.opencpn.opencpn/files/"

Here is the opencpn log.
opencpn.log.doc

the log file is found ...well, above,(emulated) or below (non-emulated)...

I would here like to congratulate Android on creating a system even more obfuscated than either Windows or Linux.

However, using TotalCommander the "real" non-emulated path can be found as "root/mnt/sdcard/Android/data/org.opencpn.opencpn/files" (cache folder here too)

sigh.

AND on my PC laptop the "real path" via usb is:
Computer\Z220\Internal storage\Android\data\org.opencpn.opencpn\files
and that is where I had to copy the "layers" and "UserIconsFolder"

screengrab here:

Click image for larger version

Name:	Screenshot_WindowsExplorer.jpg
Views:	146
Size:	37.8 KB
ID:	104518

sigh.

as to installing this new version, I was offered three options:
1)"Let the system decide" word for word
2) I think it was internal sdcard? or system? oh well, I never choose this.
3) was Removeable SD card (paraphrased but meaning is exact)

I chose 3) Removeable SD... this very obvious to me phrase was executed as internal,Non-Removeable sd card.

sigh.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.630

Happy....

OK, I lied...

"If your device allows it, the app may be "moved to SDCARD".
........The dynamic user data is still at "/mnt/sdcard/opencpn".

Not true. Here is the code I wrote late one night...
Code:
wxString androidGetPrivateDir() // Used for logfile, config file, navobj, and the like
{
    if(g_bExternalApp){
        if(g_androidExtFilesDir.Length())
            return g_androidExtFilesDir;
    }

    return _T("/mnt/sdcard/opencpn"); //g_androidFilesDir;
}

If the app is installed or moved to sdcard, (using whatever version-specific wording), then the OCPN private data directory is:

{path-to-darned-sdcard}/Android/data/org.opencpn.opencpn/files/

This is the current Android "Best Practice" recommendation.

I don't much like this, and want to think about it more. Why? Because I think (on some Android versions) that if you "Clear Data" or "Uninstall App", then all your data in this location will be wiped. Including navobj.xml, which is what we really care about.

Will you try this on your device?
1. Make a route. Close O.
2. Settings->Apps->OpenCPN->ClearData.
3. Open OCPN. Is the route gone?

Also, in the next Beta we will have the Chart Object slider bar working, so one can adjust the size of the little triangular waypoint icons, etc as desired. Also ENC soundings...

Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.630

Dave,
Followed instructions above.
Restarted O-A
Not only is route gone, but everything else.
Exactly like a brand new install.

My folders of stuff are gone. Charts need adding etc.

Your fears are realized on this Android version.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.630

I tried to install opencpn on my Huawei Y300-0100 phone. Android 4.1.1. The install went OK I guess, at least I had no error messages.

However, after I hit the OpenCPN icon, i get the message that opencpn was exited unfortunately (not sure about the english text of this particular error message since my phone is in German). Anyways, I cannot find any logs or whatever to debug this. There is no opencpn folder created on my device. Any ideas?

I really would like this to work. An Android version of OpenCPN would be fantastic.

All the best, Christian

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.630

Dave,

on Galaxy Note 2, Lollipop 5.1.1:

Install OK
CM93 charts ok
Android menu: love it
Toggle ENC ok
Settings ok, very intuitive.
GPS ok

Problem:
if I open a waypoint property, I cannot scroll it and can only see portion of it, for instant I can only see the Lat, not the Long.
I can change waypoint icon ok.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.630

Dave, A weird thing. After invoking "Clear Data per previous post" my folders "/layers" and "/UserIcons" in the
Quote:
{path-to-darned-sdcard}/Android/data/org.opencpn.opencpn/files/
are no longer recognized by O-a.
But I can browse to them from laptop/usb-they stillexist thereand were not deleted.
I will fiddle about with them in a hapless manner.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.630

zenfunk...

Welcome aboard.

Well, we need a logfile to go further.

1. Is there a logfile at /mnt/sdcard/opencpn/opencpn.log?

2. If not, can you "Move the app to SDCARD" by Android settings->Apps?

3. Then run again, and find the logfile at {sdcard}/data/Android/org.opencpn.opencpn/files/opencpn.log. ??

Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.630

Thanks for your all your work on the Android port!

On the current beta - running on a Samsung Galaxy S3 i535, version 4.4.2 rooted with no phone service, location is set to gps only. Developer options enabled but settings are default.

First look notes:

I like the basic mode interface on the phone, although I haven't gone sailing with it yet, the available control options appear that they will meet my needs most of the time.

At one point the GPS status indicator moved to the lower right portion of the screen and was mostly masked by the the screen bottom status bar. While playing with the MOB button, show hide tides and currents, the GPS status indicator returned to the upper right corner, not sure what action caused it to return. I haven't been able to replicate the behavior.

Scrolling/Zooming/Chart transitions appear smooth, I only have raster charts loaded. The auto transition of chart scale using pinch to zoom makes the menu control unnecessary in most cases.

While trying to create a route, the application stopped. Just before it stopped I was trying to put in a waypoint and although the point would appear at my touch point, it wouldn't stay once I lifted my finger. After several attempts to drop the mark using the r-click menu the application stopped. It appeared to restart without issue.

After the restart I attempted to go back to basic mode and the collapsed menu for the expert mode options remained on the screen, when I tried to click it the application stopped. When I restarted the application the expert menu was gone.

Thanks again for doing this! If you have any questions of me let me know.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.630

Also noted that when attempting to create a route, dropping waypoints was slow and after the third waypoint the application stopped. I could not recreate this bug and after the restart the application seemed more responsive.

I created several MOB waypoints and the Delete All doesn't delete the MOB waypoint. It does delete all of the standard waypoints, not sure if this is by design or bug.

On my screen the Feet/Fathoms indicator only shows the top 60% of the word, the bottom of the word is not shown.

I have the same problem, but not relaterade to tides. Overflow in some variables?

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.630

zenfunk...

Your failure signature is the same as an earlier post.
If you are able, I have another .APK image for your test. This is exactly the same as 4.1.630, but has more early logfile messages to isolate the initial failure.

Here it is:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/q09jbw0xvi...debug.apk?dl=0

Please remove the current 4.1.630 App using Android Settings->Apps->Remove. Then load and install the new .APK. The logfile should contain more information, at the same location \storage\sdcard0\opencpn.

Thanks
Dave
