OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.530

Hello testers...

The 4.1.530 Beta Test release of OpenCPN for Android is available for download now.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/rmvwpqzg0c...1.530.apk?dl=0

This is the first of an anticipated 3 or 4 Beta releases before a Production Release at Version 4.2.x.

Flyspray tracking for this Release is enabled, so please use Flyspray as you would for a normal OCPN Beta Release. This is the only sure way to guarantee tracking and timely resolution of bugs and/or functional problems

OpenCPN::Tracker OCPN Android Beta 4.1.530: Tasklist

I'll not say too much about functionality or features of OCPN for Android. Our goal is to create a faithful implementation of OCPN on the Android platform, retaining as much of the core OCPN logic and UI as seems reasonable. I hope the new Android-specific features will be intuitive to new users as well as experienced OCPN experts.

PlugIns are not supported on this Beta release. More development effort is needed, and this will continue in parallel as basic testing commences.

Thanks in advance for all your valuable feedback.
Good luck
Dave

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.530

Hi Dave

Many thanks for this new release.

Two problems (Xperia Z3 compact A5.0.2)
1) Newly created and imported route doesn't appear in route manager. Need to exit from O and
start to see it in RM

2) no tracks in the route manager

Will post on tracker as soon as possible

a remark :
Why not issuing a "PC" release in the same time ?
There were many changes witch would worth users tests

thanks
Jean Pierre

I'm confused
I use to test all recent code on PCs. Isn't the same code meant to be used for all environment, or should I stop my Win/Linux tests??

Please help me out of this
Thanks

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.530

Sorry to introduce a confusion
Off course you can test the code, but its possible only for those who
can compile by them self which reduce considerably the number of testers
I was speaking of an "official" beta testing release available for all

JP...
Oh, thanks - and I could really have read your text more carefully - "...PC release in..."

BTW - on WinXP: "4.1.530" is nicely built for both release and package but it's still called ver: 4.1.427.

jp/Hakan...

Thanks for the reports.
We will shortly start the mainstream OCPN Beta 4.1.x series, using exactly the same github master code base. Just a couple of final details to sort out.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.530

my Immediate impression is very good. New things to play with too!

I uninstalled old version first from sd card and installed new version to same and everything came up roses per the config and all the rest that was left behind by uninstall.
Someone else will do a really "fresh" install I hope because I am pretty lazy.

Next I'll put on the tablet which is anyways more practical.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.530

Installed over previous version without problems.

- Start and enable Text and Lighthouses via toolbar
- Open screen menu "View": ENCs text and Lighthouse are unchecked.
Tapping on the settting will switch off and from this moment on the two menus (Tool bar and screen menu) are in sync.
- Exiting O and starting again will show the same game

Extreme zoom-in of ENCs (tested with French Inland ENCs) will turn the chart canvas black. Screen Menues are working still. This is not new, has been this way right from the first version.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.530

Tablet Android 4.0.3:
-a fresh install "to sdcard" works fine! and the packaged tides now work!
-enabling chart bar was a little sticky- it wouldn't appear until I turned tablet sideways.
-good idea for special android-O icon

...I was going to whine about dialogue windows being a little to long at the bottom on my little Phone above (maybe because of existing config file?), but they fixed themselves.. and are MUCH improved as to size on tablet too.

Android 4.4.2 on samsung pro 8.4 you can't press any of the top menu keys because it's in the same area of the screen that has the pull down menu for the device. ..also they are very tiny

Re: OpenCPN for Android Beta test 4.1.530

internal gps ok here on both devices
(@ Wrong; Any chance your device is trying to get a fix from cell phone towers? ...I was looking at your earlier link per "developers page" and that came to mind. Also, related is the so-called "assisted gps" (AGPS)where cell towers reputedly supplied almanac to midp java phone gps. I always turn Assistance off where possible. It's true some java phones were difficult to disentangle but these are all in the bin now anyways

PS little sliders for sizing Toolbar buttons and stuff are great!

PSps I am not sure my "trick" of creating route into offscreen territory is still so great- the first time, I couldn't stop O scrolling- but I get a sense that O needs time to get control of the new body she's been incarnated into...maybe I mean ; to rewrite the old config to her liking but it seems more than that-(She's alive, Igor-she's ALIVE!).... but otherwise, route creation working fine on my tiny phone. Lines between wpts are there now too

aah. I see. ..a change in this version.. on my tablet (A4.0.3) and phone (A5.0), the screen can be "swiped" towards off-screen territories while creating route!

My technique must change... it is best to stay away from screen edge when placing wpts! because, still, if I put a wpt very near the left or right side the screen will still auto-scroll extending route endlessly..there are ways to stop this "swiping" screen back is one.
