There is a thread called
Confused. Should I buy a Raymarine E7 chart plotter? or just stick with a IPAD?? whereinthe virtues and faults of each of the devices is being fairly hotly argued and forumized.
For my part I have been tempted regarding
purchasing a chart plotter for many years but draw back from doing so because of the negatives involved in devices running proprietary
software and the high cost. Also I get a great deal of enjoyment out of mucking about with
OpenCPN - the good feeling one experiences from discovering some new function and getting it to
work lasts for days.
I have a Sony Xperia tablet which I bought mainly because of it's semi waterproof construction and will be downloading Dave's version of
OpenCPN to run on it some time in the near future. However I am curious as to whether the
autopilot function one accesses through tool and
communications outputs via the
wifi? I have a dedicated nav computer already but notice that the usb
ports on it are starting to become a little unreliable.
