Addendum: Dragging the tool bar around in my chroot OpenCPN, version 4.1.427 works flawlessly... Tried android version again, and went instantly from horizontal to vertical. Moving it freely is impossible and returning to horizontal position required multiple fiddling efforts.

Re: OpenCPN for Android Alpha test 4.1.427

Hi all

I had an automatic update and now my Z3 Compact is under A 5.02
The 4.27 run correctly.
One of the most disturbing :
It seems that the screen is repainted only when occurs a dragging action.
One exemple of this :|
When creating a route: tap for a wp, nothing happens. The new wp is drawn only when dragging a bit. This make route creation impossible

Is this new behaviour on A5?

Re: OpenCPN for Android Alpha test 4.1.427

It is tough to make a route by tapping the screen with touchscreen because every time you touch screen to pan, you create a route waypoint. I create standalone way points first and then make a route with the existing waypoints.

Dave
We have seen this under 4.4.2 as well and has been this way before.

No it is not new

This screen refresh after dragging/zooming ( more precisely when the finger is pulled out after dragging/zooming) seems to be the rule
- delete a route : the route is still shown until I drag and/or zoom
- zoom or drag : the visible zone is dragged/zoomed but the entire screen is refreshed only after I pulled out my finger

back to the specific case of creating a route :
As I said , taping to create a wp generally don't show the wp point except if there is a dragging event.
But it is not always the case . Sometime I tap and the new wp is shown. One, two, three times it works then the next taps do nothing then if I drag slightly, all the wp corresponding to all the previous taps are shown.
If we consider as leonA said in his post above that after dragging when I pull out my finger ( unlike with 4.0) a wp is created, it is impossible to create a correct route

Re: OpenCPN for Android Alpha test 4.1.427

jp/bcn...

I cannot reproduce problems with screen refresh relative to route actions on any of three separate devices.

Reported problems:
1. - delete a route : the route is still shown until I drag and/or zoom

2. tapping to create a wp generally don't show the wp point except if there is a dragging event.

I would like to know if this is android version specific, or device specific, or maybe I just do not understand the use case.

Please test, if able, and describe in good detail the actions used to demonstrate the problem. Simpler cases are better.

Thanks
Dave

Just a thought----
This "route is still shown......." seems in some way similar to my experiences with "overlay" objects discussed here http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...ml#post1816586 ????

Samsung Galaxy Tab S10.5 Android 5.0.2
Long press on chart and create mark from menu. The mark does not show on the screen until you scroll or pan the chart. A long press on a mark and choose delete mark from the menu and the mark remains visible on the screen until you move the map. The same happens when deleting a route, the route remains visible on the screen until the chart is moved

Re: OpenCPN for Android Alpha test 4.1.427

Is it impossible to create a route if you must pan the chart to continue it? Is the only workaround to end the route, pan the chart, and append to it ...(by push-'n-hold on the route line).
but then it gets confusing, because a route line that is not terminated by a wpt appears..as in the line you see at the end heading Northeast:

at first I tried "undo append waypoint" to get rid of this random route line -not a good idea
....Eventually, I realized that I should ignore the random line and tap the location for the new appended wpt or wpts...

..there's other glitches that are maybe related to this; sometimes the existing route will disappear altogether replaced by a random routeline going nowhere somewhere off screen ...thereafter it's impossible to do anything except futz ones way out to a place I can get a grip again.
(ps this is on lenovo ideatab(?)Android 4.0.3)

Edit psps zooming in on the first screengrab shows gobbledegook on the tag at the end of the random line
AND on the end of the route in second screen grab

Re: OpenCPN for Android Alpha test 4.1.427

Happy...

You have discovered a troubling issue with doing real work on a "touch-screen-no-mouse-button-no-hover" device. Not enough discriminatory gesture operations. We need to discriminate between a touch to drop the next waypoint versus a touch to begin a pan operation. Tough to read the users mind on this. I'm thinking about this seriously, now, and hope to come up with something that will be intuitive.....

Meanwhile, do you personally have any trouble with delayed refresh when creating a route, as discussed above by JeanPierre? Lets tackle this first...

Re: OpenCPN for Android Alpha test 4.1.427

Dave, My answer= No. (per "delayed refresh" when creating route)

I was trying to duplicate issues detailed by LeoA and Ptizef above on my older android 4.0.3 and find only as I described as possibly relevant so far..
