So far, so good.

I think this is reflective of the open source community. Linux and open source comes naturally.

But now it's becoming a little bit absurd.
In my opinion it is quite logical that

because the process of downloading and compiling from CVS for Linux is
- well documented
- up-to-date
- easier (as for Windows)
And IMHO Linux users are more familiar with things like this whereas the classical Windows user is more used to just
work with programs, not compiling them before use.
That does not have anything to do with a reflection of the open source community.
I am used to Windows as OS for more than 20 years. And I don't see why I (personally) should switch to Linux. That does not affect my attitude towards Open-Source software/ programs at all.
And as the statistics for the German Website (for the last 3 months) shows (see
Besucherstatistik nach 3 Monaten | OpenCPN.de), 4 out of 5 visitors are running on a Windows platform.
So I am still hoping that the Windows support from the developers side becomes even better. The buildwin directory and the vcproj (please keep the file up-to-date - otherwise it is useless) file were a good beginning.
I am also quite sure that the number of OCPN users who are running on Windows platform is much larger than the Linux one. This forum may lead to another impression but only because the Linux guys are more active here (and in the developement).
And today it is still a fact that if you code a program which is not running on Windows, you code for a minority - open source or not.
So one of the things the
project is missing is a well-defined task sharing. IMO there should be at least one named person for each supported OS whose job is it to make sure that every part of the
project concerning the respective OS is up-to-date at any time.
I cannot hear the discussion about Linux and Windows anymore and as written on SF.net
