Re: Opencpn Dokuwiki Migration -MOB- Help Needed!!! MOB

Can you change the format of the Dokuwiki pages? Right now the sidebar at the left and the table of contents at the right leave an area that it too narrow for some of the images in the manual. It is possible to prevent Dokuwiki from generating the table of contents? It just covers the current page, so it isn't real useful for our manual. It's better suited for pages that are long text documents. If you could suppress it that would free up a significant amount of screen space.

Re: Opencpn Dokuwiki Migration -MOB- Help Needed!!! MOB

The Charts section is completed and Fabbian has largely completed the main plugin documentation (there are some section pages needed for some of the specialized categories.)

The next pages to complete are the Advanced section and the Connections section.

We need some volunteers to help move this forward.

Re: Opencpn Dokuwiki Migration -MOB- Help Needed!!! MOB

Fabian, this page shows we can control TOC with the maxtoc, mintoc and notoc settings.
https://www.dokuwiki.org/toc
We can turn TOC off completely under config settings or by page using notoc command.
I am going to assume that we want TOC turned off completely. If we find we need some other setup we can change it.

The builtin TOC that appears on the right is now turned off by setting maxtoc=0 in the config fole.

We really need two skilled editors to help change and check all internal and external page references appropriately to refer to the new wiki pages whenever possible. Please PM me and register. Thanks

The new Opencpn Wiki works very nicely on a cell phone
Try this link, then pick the dripdown "sidebar" at the top to see the Indexmenu.

Re: Opencpn Dokuwiki Migration -MOB- Help Needed!!! MOB

New "empty" pages have been created to conform to the outline and page order for Supplementary Software and Hardware Sections. Next will be pages for the Developer Manual.

We need skilled editors to help with this migration by copying text and fixing image links and then find and replace to fix all internal page links for each "book" and all pages.

Please register and pm me!
Thanks

Re: Opencpn Dokuwiki Migration -MOB- Help Needed!!! MOB

I've been working on the Plugin pages. Early on Rick and I discovered a problem getting the sidebar to sort in the order we wanted. The problem is Dokuwiki sorts all the pages which have child pages before those which don't. I solved that by adding a blank child page to each page which had no child pages.

Here's how I did it.

As you look at the list of pages in the sidebar those without a + prefix don't have any child pages. Right-click on the sidebar link and choose "Create/Custom page" from the pop-up menu. The new page will be created under the namespace you clicked on. When prompted for the name of the new page enter "blank". In the new page enter "This page intentionally left blank." Then save the page.

It's not necessary to edit the parent page. You don't need a link to the blank page, you just need to have it present in the file structure.

There are some pages (or namespaces) whose child pages have no child pages of their own. They appear in the proper order in the sidebar. Should we create child pages for them anyway to preserve the sort order in case someone later adds another child page or should we wait until that happens and add the necessary blank pages to restore the sort order?

If a later editor adds a child page this scheme for preserving the sort order may have been forgotten. On the other hand, many of the pages may never have a child page, making a lot of blank pages just unnecessary overhead.

Comments?

Re: Opencpn Dokuwiki Migration -MOB- Help Needed!!! MOB

Fabbian, excellent writeup. Thank you for solving this problem!
I think we should be consistant and make child pages, also on the main opencpn page where editors are now listed, below that is notes to editors. We should add a note as you have explained.

We'll keep a running list there about editing and configuring the wiki. Then later will move that content to be under the Developer Manual.

Volunteers Needed - Wiki Migration

Fabbian and I have setup the new OpenCPN Wiki and have largely completed migration of the OpenCPN User Documentation. We will continue to work on this, however to complete the work by January, we need the following volunteers:

A. Migrate Books to new Wiki & correct image links
Three Volunteers needed, one for each book.
1. Developer Manual
2. Supplementary Software
3 .Supplementary Hardware
Job Description: Copy and Paste pages into the new Wiki book. The edit image links.

A. Correct all internal links for each book.
Four Volunteers needed, one for each book.
1. Developer Manual
2. Supplementary Software
3 .Supplementary Hardware
4. OpenCPN User Manual
Job Description: Search and replace all internal links, and check.

In total, that is seven good volunteers to complete the rest of the book documentation! Otherwise this is not going to get done, because Fabbian and I do not intend to do any more than what is needed for the OpenCPN User Manual Book/wiki!

This is volunteer work for USERS, not programmers. It is a useful way to contribute to your favorite Navigation Program and you will be given credit in the the Editors section.

Will Volunteers please REGISTER and PM rgleason so that I can give you edit rights and send you an email with the password.

Thank you.
