OpenCpn current for Nord sea
Hi everyone,
OpenCPN user and frustrated to not have the display of tidal currents for the North Sea. Unpretentious Based on the information about the harmonic files structure I could gather on the Internet: I have made my own HARMONIC files based on paper maps and other sources (...) for the Belgian coast and southern UK
Try it and let me know...
You just have to download the 2 files and to remove ".xls" of each
and add the new files to OpenCpn currents parameters
FYI: It works on OpenCpn too
Regards
Pierre

Just tried the Harmonic files an these work great for the Dutch coastal area. Perhaps you can extend the currents also for the Oosterschelde and Westerschelde Rivers.

Re: OpenCpn current for Nord sea

UPDATE : OpenCpn current for Nord sea
Many thanks P_Dub for your feedback
If I well understood about Dover timetables
In fact, the current arrows on the map are right.
It's only after right-clicking on an arrow (to show the detailed window) and when the reference port is UK (Dover, etc...) where indicated day time were sometime (sorry for that ) for France (1 hour difference).
It now fixed in the attached files:(remember: download the 2 files and remove ".xls" of each)
Sailing regards
PtBoyur

Re: OpenCpn current for Nord sea
Here are files that may explain better why the results of your harmonics does not correspond to the correct data.
Best Regards.

For Bram (verkerkbr) and those who are interested in:
I have Currents for Zeeland...
You just have to download the 2 files and to remove ".xls" of each
and add the new files to OpenCpn currents parameters
Try it

Hi P_Dub,
Thanks for your answer but There is no file attached to your message
While awaiting further information, below the tide parameters for Dover in my database
I think it's right !

Dear PtBoyur,
just tried the current data for the Delta Area Zeeland. It is working excellent in OpenCPN.
I have not yet tested it on the Belgian Map of the Schelde river to Antwerp. It would be nice if the dataset also covered the Belgian part of the Schelde river.
Thanks a lot for your efforts,
Greetings from my homeport Zierikzee,

Dear PtBoyur,
I just tried the Belgian ENC Chart of the Schelde river. But no current information.
If possible, it would be perfect if you can add also the tidal stream information for the Belgian part of the River Scheldt till Antwerpen or Wintam.
Regards from Zeeland,
Bram

Re: OpenCpn current for Nord sea
Dear PtBoyur,
Tried your data on the boat this weekend. However if I compare the data with the Dutch Tidal information, there is a certainly rather great difference. Can be that the timing is not correct.
When I'am at home I will make a table with the Dutch tidal information for HW and LW so that you can compare this with your data.
Otherwise the tidal information is a very usefull item on OpenCPN.
Regards,
Bram
