OPENCPN crashing with GPSgate

Hi,

Trying to use GPSgate client with OPENcpn. I have Garmin 60CSX connected to laptop by USB, then use the gpsgate client to send NMEA on virtual COM ports for Open CPN and qtVLM.

OpenCPN sees the data and gets GPS signal, but will crash straight away or after 30-60 seconds.

If I disable GPSgate or change connection from Com port directly to Garmin over usb, works fine.

Has anyone experienced issues with GPSgate?
Any ideas where to start?

When do you do this? Please explain in greater detail using sequential steps taken:

Please write down or take screenshots of your exact configuration in Connections in Opencpn & Gpsgate and the Garmin. What mode is the Garmin 60sx in?

I use this on a Toughbook to use USB GPS split to multiple applications simultaneously.

Ok so NMEA logging revealed these commands caused OPENCPN application to stop working
- HCHDG (Compass output)
- PGRMM (map datum)

Once these were excluded, OPEN CPN now seems works fine with NMEA output from GPSGATE

I have used GPSGate extensively with OCPN, for years and many thousand miles and had no issues. I can only say that you have probably found the cause and that the OCPN developers will have to look into it for you. Have you filed a bug report?

Neither of these messages should cause O to crash. Can you post a text file containing these messages for testing? If so I will try to find the root cause.
