OpenCPN Bug--or other? --a Re-Post

This is about my fourth installation of OpenCPN Stable Release 4.4.0 on my 2009 Windows 7 Home Premium/Service Pack 1 machine. I did it by the book--I even disconnected the internet cable as advised by OC.

Still always the same problem. I want to go across Florida via the Okeechobee Waterway. Cannot get OpenCPN to show the Waterway with a NOAA ENC (vector) chart, downloaded using the "Chart Downloader" tab. It just won't show up on the land portion of Florida. Part of it shows in the Ft. Meyers Inlet area, but only the basic 'brown land' shows in the Florida peninsula part. No waterway. The green chart outline for the waterway shows on the brown basic land, but no waterway when I zoom in closer. I also installed (both were done via the 'Chart Downloader') the Gulf of Mexico ENC chart and it works fine, as does other charts I've installed. I even tried the NOAA Raster Chart of the same name (again via Chart Downloader) and sections of the Waterway would show up, but not the whole Waterway. again. I have also hooked up my GPS puck to OC and not, no difference. The boat icon shows up when I hook up the GPS puck (GlobalSat BU-353S4), so that's working too.

Would some of you fellow OC users please install the Florida State "Okeechobee Waterway St.Lucie Inlet to Fort Myers; Lake Okeechobee" ENC chart using the OC Chart Downloader on your copy (OC 4.4.0) of OC and tell me if the Waterway shows up?

Is this a bug in OC, a ghost in the machine, or is it my misunderstanding somehow of OC? At least knowing that would be helpful, thanks. I have copies of my OC Config and Log files, but not sure how to post them here if requested.

In frustration--we're going to FL soon,
Wil

Some screen shots perhaps?

Quilting enabled? --> settings

And tranquil .. with more of a million downloads and some hundreds of thousands of users the program should work for you.
The "?" button brings you to a quite complete manual, just in case.

Under Options(the wrench)\Display "Enable Chart Quilting" is checked.

I have attached a screenshot of the green chart outlines for the Okeechobee Waterway but no Waterway itself. It does not show up even when zoomed in on.

I've looked through the manual quite a bit, but didn't find my particular issue.

Don't see a piano, closest looking top row icon in my OpenCPN is the 'printer'. Are you referring to OpenCPN ver. 4.4.0?

Depending on the chart sets you have downloaded you should see more installed charts (the outlines on your screen).
The "piano" (hover over it) shows the charts in sight.

Caribdis

I have all of Region 7 installed. No problem whatsoever with the charts for the
Okeechobee Waterway.
Check your OpenCPN.log to see what the program thinks of your charts.

I found the OpenCPN.log file, but not that able at reading it. There don't seem to be time stamps on it. The CF webserver is calling my OpenCPNLogFile.txt an "Invalid File" when I try and upload it.

This is my view. As you can see I have many more charts loaded and a bigger "piano".
You don't have the right charts loaded. You only seems to have a few small scale charts. You both need to download the right charts and register the folders, containing the charts, in Options->Charts->Chart Files. Please check again that you have the right coverage.
The log file will catalog all registered charts, among other things, and show your setup.
This forum is a bit funny with uploading files. To upload your log file please change the name to OpenCPN.log.pdf

Re: OpenCPN Bug--or other? --a Re-Post

Cagney, thanks for showing me how many charts and piano keys you had open. I had a mixed-up jumble of RNC & ENC charts on my old OpenCPN install, so I did a clean re-install of OC and checked all 99 boxes of the ENC charts for Florida State--that did the trick! Thanks much again.

And thank you to everybody else who chipped in. I tried for some help on TrawlerForum and got the usual ossified opinions about how they 'wouldn't trust OC with their life' from the 'Gurus' over there. Ah well, glad you folks are here.

Ah, those who have a double redundant SOLAS approved system which never crashes... On their iPhone.
Recommend them to run OCPN in parallel perhaps.
And ask for the version they tried. 2.x something or earlier?

Yeh, I've gotten in a tussle with the 'Gurus' over there before (about 12v vs. 24v), have no taste for beating my head against their obstinate skulls again. I left the thread and came over here to find the help I needed.
