A "nice to have" and not more. Getting a stable 4.8.2 out of the door is important.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 4.8.10125

Hello Dave,

11/01/2018, I download Argentine charts with Chartdownloader.

Today, with O4810125 I use these charts.
1° With OpenGL OFF, see screen copy, with black area
2° With OpenGL ON, see screen copy. No black area but not good.

Then I try with stable O48. Same problem ... Strange.

I will try a new download and start the test again.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 4.8.10125

I delete all old charts and now, new Download finished.

And same kind of problem with black area with OpenGL OFF or ON.

Othet test : I notice also black area with Brazil charts.

See the two last screen copy. From the N°3 to number 4, I use only once, the Zoom + icon.

Gilletarom...

Yes, we see that the Argentina charts have some display problems. This seems to be improper KAP file information in the chart files, but we may need to work around this in O.

Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 4.8.10125

Updated my Raspberry Pi 3 via ppa (bdbcat) with 4.8.10125. Plugins are back again and important: oeSenc plugin is also still working.

I think that is a very important issue for users to do the upgrade.

Great !!

Regards,

Bram

Will do some further testing, but no problems here.

Gerhard.

Your sometimes nasty comments are normally only worth to be ignored but:
I've been obliged to work on both Transas and C-Map the last week and again are my impressions that OCPN is a wonder of a user friendly system. Clear, consistent and easy to handle.

To illustrate Pavel's observations about the RO Inland ENCs:

first a lot of error messages like this one (incomplete update chain):

Charts that are missing or don't get displayed:

and that rendering that does get it wrong scale wise:

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 4.8.10125

Pavel/Hubert...

RO inland ENC:

Charts that suck, indeed.

1. These little charts are declared at scale 1:700,000. This is nonsense. Or if it is true, and the compilation scale is coherent, then the chart is useless for the intended purpose.

But if you insist:

2. The "cartoon" rendering can be eliminated by checking Options->Display->Advanced->Suppress scaled vector charts on overzoom.

Thanks
Dave

Yes, according to the rest of the folio, they should be something like 1:4000 (It gets better up river - from 1:700000 with these sea facing cells, over 1:100000 to usable)

Yes, I know. But perhaps we should put some upper limit on the symbol magnification factor?

If a chart is broken the issuer shall fix this - and nobody shall try to guess intentions.

my point of view - we shall send an observation to the RO authority.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 4.8.10125

Should we have a "Charts that Suck" or (maybe some other title) page with examples (there seem to be plenty of those) and explanations of what is wrong? And what to do "Notify the RO? and How?

Why? So users are made aware that the cartographers are also fallible and that it is a system of important parts.

Is there a reason for all the white space when looking at waypoints?

The small circle symbol is created by "<sym>Waypoint</sym>"

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 4.8.10125

You are coming back with the same blurring with the raster charts mainly on the last version 4.8.10125
Hope you repair that soon.
