Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 4.6.22

How obnoxious and ungrateful can one be!? Damn!
Instead of complaining in a smug, rude and self entitled manner, please step to the plate and show the rest of us how it is done. Come on now Mr. CEO of software ... no more talking, just do it!

Would sometimes be nice but there's a good reason why it's outside and independent from the tools menu; While options menu are opened some outgoing messages, like to an AP, are halted. So if you for example want to study NMEA debugs while using an AP the tools menu has to be closed and therefor it's good to have the NMEA debug window outside.
And this halt behavior is somewhat different on every OS. Sean has discussed this earlier but I don't know the result.

Just an idea. And maybe too late for the release of the V4.8.

The NMEA phrase window should be integrated in the "Options / Connections" window. It would be enough that it is just at the bottom of the window with a button "On" and a "Pause" button.

Since the "Options / Connections" window already has a slider, it might be feasible?

Gilletarom.

Gilletarom,

I was thinking the same thing. I will look into it.

How many lines should the NMEA message window have? Would 10 lines be enough with a slider to scroll back and look at previous messages?

I have sometimes wished for more lines of NMEA data so i could scroll back much farther than what is now possible.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 4.6.22

Dave sorry for the waiting. I return to the 4.6.0 version and the properties of an icon (lat and long) showed up correctly. So something was change afterward. If that can help you.
Have a good day and thank you for help.

P_Dub...

Please check again with Beta 4.6.22, and report. Double-click, or right-click->context menu should bring up mark properties. Beta 4.6.2 was not correct here.

Thanks
Dave

Dave...

here we go

Hubert

Ps. there is an ownship.svg as well. Which one do you need?

Pps.: The issue is the following:
The svg is composed by two lateral splines and an embedded bitmap. The bitmap will not be rendered by O.
Just modified the name of the svg and ownship.png gets rendered as before.

I think we do not need to nail this down for the release.

If you get to put the sentences in the options window, then 10 lines is fine.

That said, another idea would be to make it a separate plugin and each user should install the plugin and open it with an = e icon in the icon bar.
But since I am not able to program, I do not insist on this latter idea. I've already put enough "bazaar" in this thread.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 4.6.22

bcn...

Ownship PNG icon:

Funny. No (obvious) changes in handling/scaling user ownship icon between 4.6.1, and 4.6.22.

Is it the same without OpenGL? What chart object scale factor is used? Could we see the ownship placed near a diamond waypoint, to compare sizes?

Background:
We do not scale ownship.png at all before applying the chart object scale factor. The PNG is imported at the pixel resolution specified in the PNG file. Why? Because we have no idea what the user wants to see. Maybe one really wants ownship to be much, much larger than waypoints, buoys, etc. It would not be fair to arbitrarily scale ownship.png to be the same size as the default ownship icon.

I have no super-hi-res device, so it looks fine to me on both 4.6.1 and 4.6.22

????

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 4.6.22

Dave...

did edit my post above:

the png is well rendered, no issue, but the ownship.svg in the usericon directory contains a bitmap and will not be rendered correctly.

Obviously you are giving priority to ownship.svg over ownship.png
Renaming the ownship.svg and all is as before - well.

Aha...

Our SVG decode library has known trouble with embedded bitmaps. No prior reason to fix it, since we do not use this feature internally.

OK, issue closed for 4.8.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 4.6.22

Hello,

I have used version 4.6.22 in navigation every day since its release. I use the raster map of Sweden from Solten.
No problem either on my Lenovo W10 PC or on the Microsoft Surface W10 tablet.

Since the tablet does not have GPS, I plugged a USB GPS directly into the USB port of the tablet. And all is fine.

But I did not use a plugin other than Grib, Dashboard and VDR.

Gilletarom.
