I'm assuming vector charts work without opengl or is that a separate issue that is broken on osx?

Could you try disabling quilting before viewing the raster chart? Does it also crash without quilting? Can you try adding only one small directory at a time?
It may be possible you have exposed a different bug because of your unique charts.

Yes, everything appears to work without OpenGL (except the preference panes)

I've disabled quilting, and have switched to an "off-the-shelf" raster chart (from New Zealand). When I enable OpenGL, I don't get an immediate crash, and the chart renders smoothly - so presumably using OpenGL. But as soon as I try to pan or zoom, it crashes. The crash logs look slightly different for this case: the first two attachments are for enabling OpenGL with quilting off. The third and fourth crash logs are for trying to restart OpenCPN with OpenGL enabled (it crashes, so I need to switch OpenGL off using version 4.4.0 before I can re-open version 4.5.127).

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 4.5.127
Did you try with fewer charts? Can you try with only a single chart?
The problem doesn't exist in version 4.4 correct? If only I could use your debugger... Can anyone else reproduce this on macosx? Can you compile from source and perform git-bisect from version 4.4?
Did you try removing the opencpn.conf and see if the problem exists with default settings?

My sugestion is to include your famous optimizations with
#ifndef __WXOSX__
your optimization...
#endif
That will help a lot. I never include your commits in my personal version and it works great.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 4.5.127
povl/Sean...
I sorted out the raster chart OpenGL trouble. Simple memory management glitch. We don't have a good way to monitor system memory useage on Mac, so we don't even try. Thus, the memory "crunch" logic in the texture factory didn't work right, and ended up deleting an active factory.
So, that fix, and the patch for missing options dialog pages, are both in github now, ready for the next Beta.

Only two minor remarks:
I can switch between OpenGL or no OpenGL
With OpenGL setting to off I get some red flashes on the screen. These are gone when OpenGL is set to on.
If OpenGL is set to on, I get a green screen with Grib info. Grib off, than the Chart is back again.
This does not appear with OpenGl is set to off. That was also the case with version 4.4.
Thanks for all the progress.

I'am now using kernel 4.9.6, Wayland and with the VC4 experimental driver on.
The problems of this message are now all gone.
All is running with OpenGL in OpenCPN to on.
Glxgears with v-blank_mode=o is running at around 450 FPS.

Ahoy...
Anyone else seeing crash on Language change in Windows? Maybe this is a Win10 issue only. Works fine for me on Win7 EN->DE->EN.
Thanks

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 4.5.127
Dave..
language change.
First time EN--> DE went well and directly applied
DE --> EN did hang (stalled, black screen, blue squirl)
Restart EN is applied but the next language change will go into black screen again.
No crash with crash report.

the other W8.1 64bit PC
Can change, no crash, no stall.

On this one no oeSENC-pi installed.
Anyhow there is a glitch:

From debug:
- In user interface I chose a language. Eng(US) or any other is equal.
- Click OK
- Options window is closed - Now the restart message should have been shown but it's not.
- OCPN hangs
- Debug output shows:
Code:
..\..\src\msw\window.cpp(498): 'DestroyWindow' failed with error 0x00000578 (ogiltig fönsterreferens (handle).). >>=(invalid window reference)
The thread 0x354 has exited with code 0 (0x0).
The thread 0x2128 has exited with code 0 (0x0).
The thread 0x2f8 has exited with code 0 (0x0).
Where can I brake to trace?

More from debug:
If I click Apply instead of OK nothing happens. No message no nothing. OK render as above.

The change is applied even without closing OCPN - different from 4.4
Just closing Options and entering again you have the new language.
