Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.604 Released

Hi,

I found that on Ubuntu 12.04.02 LTS 32-bit OpenCPN 3.2.2 & 3.3.604 dim (F6 and shift-F6) doesn't work at all (I tried with or without OpenGL).

P.S. I had also problem with OpenGL, if I set it on, very often linux hangs and I need to do hard reset of the laptop. Need I any special library to support OpenGL on old laptop (HP Compaq 6910p)?

Welcome to the club... Which version of the 6910p do you have? The one with Intel integrated graphics or with ATI card? Anyway, try different drivers, which might or might not help.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.604 Released

Kubek,
Are you using a Virtualbox with Windows7 host? Just curious.

I have Ubuntu 12.04 running in VirtualBox and wanted to change the size of the Unity Icons, was told to go to System Settings > Appearances and set it there. There was not place to set it,, so after some search I found out this setting is not available without having 3d acclerartion OpenGL... Then after some more search I found that VirtualBox Guest additions had a problem and there was consequently an upgrade for similar reasons that you mention, about 3 months ago...now I have the most current VirtualBox, so I should not have a problem, right! It seems that running 3d through VB using the Windows accleratators is a little insecure, in some ways I don't care aboutt that, but would just like to get Opengl going (I always though I had it set on that, because a lot of the Grib and Climatology relies on OpenGL to render... so I am conffused. What's new. - Maybe my enable Nvidia Geforce 540m is ok, but the onboard Intel Integrated Graphics may be interfering in some way...

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.604 Released

Hello testers....

If possible, I would like to see more about some aggressive testing of COM port output functions in 3.3.604. I am particularly interested in those configurations that have caused unreproducible crashes in the past, as on Win8. The Crash Reporting logic in 3.3.604 may give us a handle on these problems, but I have yet to get a 3.3.604 crash report......Hard to believe that no one has crashed 3.3.604 in Windows yet.

If the known bugs of 3.3.604 are causing any problem in extended real-life testing, let me know that, and we will cut a new Beta Release so that useful testing may continue.

Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.604 Released

Hi,

Yesterday, I played a little with AIS on windows version and I found that in 3.3.604 sound alarm in AIS doesn't work. I could have alarm pop-up windows but without sound. It works on 3.2.2. Could anybody confirm that?

kubek

I have no problems on Linux !

Does the alarm sound test work?
I suppose that you checked that the box for alarm sound is ticked?
A new feature is a default alarm sound, #11 in the first post of this thread, so what happens if you pick a new alarm sound?
Anything in your logfile?

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.604 Released

Hi,

I checked it again, and as I wrote previously, on my laptop windows version 3.2.2 works with AIS sound alarm, but 3.3.604 doesn't. I checked also ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS with 3.3.604 and it works without any problems. It looks like we have some issue with AIS sound alarm only on 3.3.604/win but watchman sound alarms works with that version!

where you are testing ais, in croatia. +35 centigrade day, 28 during night, literary cloudless sky until November, fog once in 20 years, visibility 30 miles, more than your line of sight, and you need ais.

Hi,

There is a test VDR file with NMEA sentences (I get it from OpenCPN web site) just to test OpenCPN beta version for possible bugs. I agree with you that some "sundays" sailors don't need AIS in this perfect weather. But you would like to be sure that in worst condition AIS system warn you in case of possible accident.

kubek which nmea file are you using? Watchman AIS timed alarm shows n/a under 3.3.604. I thought that was a problem with the plugin, maybe not? I will try AIS alarm.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.604 Released

Hi,

After few tests I have seen that we have problem with "Test Alert Sound" button in "AIS Target" tab. If you try to check just chosen sound file by pressing that button nothing is happened. But if you play VDR file you can hear those sound alert. I reinstall OpenCPN 3.3.604, but it doesn't changed test sound behavior.
