Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2410 Released

Dave
Much the same for me as post #6 opie91.
Only mine won't close after checking "Rebuild Texture Cache".
Ubuntu 14.04.
I have to killall in a terminal to close "O".

Dave,

O will not close after you check the "Clear Texture Cache" box under the OpenGL settings (just like 3.3.2330) Here is a video of whats going on:

" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350">

It appears to function normally, but just will not close without using the task manager.

Notes: Windows 7, processor load up due to video capture software.

I should have put "rebuild texture Cache" in my original post. Sorry for the confusion.

More info
2 computers running Ubuntu 14.04

First seems to run through the rebuild when selected and closes "O" as it should.(new window opens and roles through rebuild,no problems)

Second computer is the one reported above.
When rebuild cache is selected and OK pressed nothing happens,
no window opens as I see on the first computer.
Then "O" will not close by the redX

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2410 Released

Redog/Opie91...

OK, I see the trouble. It is a bug.

This will occur if you have no (i.e. zero) .KAP chart files loaded. That is, you have only vector charts loaded.

Of course, there is nothing for the raster compression loop to do in this case, but he forgets to let go of the program exit blocker. An error for sure.

On my list for next Beta.
Meanwhile, "don't do that if you don't have raster charts loaded".

If you can build from source, the fix will be in github very shortly.

Thanks
Dave

Dave
It is as you say, I had come to the same conclusion as you suggest, although the explanation is best left to you.
Cheers redog

I really do not see the point in this feature at all.
There is already the giant "Overzoom" logo, you gotta be blind not to see that.
But no need to comment further on that, it seems like it's staying unfortunately.
There are two new checkboxes. If you check "Suppress overzoom display emphasis effects" you don't get the blurring on overzoom. If you check "Suppress scaled vector charts on overzoom" you don't get enlarged display elements when you overzoom vector charts. So with both boxes checked the programs works just as it did before. "Overzoom" in giant letters still appears on the screen and you can zoom in as much as you like.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2410 Released

The two checkboxes that control behavior on overzoom work great but the wording is not at all clear. Consider these suggested changes. Replace "Supress overzoom display emphasis effects" with "Suppress screen blur on overzoom". Replace "Suppress scaled vector charts on overzoom" with "Suppress enlargement of vector chart objects on overzoom".

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2410 Released

Hotrod...

After some searching, I found a soundings symbol that is improperly rendered, as in your attachments.

For others who want to look-see, here is KML of a waypoint nearby.

Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" ?>
<kml xmlns:atom="http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom" xmlns="http://www.opengis.net/kml/2.2" xmlns:gx="http://www.google.com/kml/ext/2.2" xmlns:kml="http://www.opengis.net/kml/2.2">
  <Document>
    <name>Zoom-10-20</name>
    <Placemark>
      <name>Zoom-10-20</name>
      <description></description>
      <Point>
        <coordinates>5.06744,60.4403,0. </coordinates>
      </Point>
    </Placemark>
  </Document>
</kml>

This is a bug, all right. Happens in non-OpenGL mode only, and only in some cases depending on the state of OCPN's internal symbol caches.

Fix is in github now.

Thanks
Dave

I had the opportunity to observe PCs on which it was easy possible to switch the role of N Screen 1 and 2 display. But it is true that I have never experienced this completely. I've said this so that O leaves a door open to this kind of situation (subject, of course, that the necessary development is not too heavy.)

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2410 Released

all...
osx Mavericks...still a few UI issues.

There is a problem with the grib button in the tool bar..
clicking activates plugin and dialog appears, clicking on canvas (to zoom) sends the dialog behind the canvas...thats the easy bit..it takes two clicks on toolbar button to close..then clicking on any other button in the toolbar reactivates the grib plugin...and sends the dialog behind. Not possible to stop this behaviour once started..

The enter full screen mode option in the menu bar is great..except there is no way out again...key combo..not reacting...force quit required.

The quilting preference issue is better , it works, still not in sync, and the logic is reversed...unticking in the menubar turns it on....

On the whole O it is the most responsive it has ever been on mac, although there is still hesitation or freeze when zooming...sometimes only a click to centre will get things moving again..
thanks for all the efforts

mo

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2410 Released

Just want to update that comment about hesitation/freeze on zoom, just rebuilt the texture cache again & its a vast improvement....only very infrequent freeze at certain zoom levels, which can be got over by backing out then zoom in again. its on a MBP with duel graphics processors so i don't think its a horsepower issue.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2410 Released

After a bit more prodding i discovered that the behaviour i described for the grib plugin toolbar button is exactly the same with the logbookonni button..
two clicks to close....any other button pushed reactivates it and it reappears behind the canvas....dont know about other plugins as none installed..

I think I am seeing this freeze on zoom as well.

My observations:
  1. Has been a problem for a while. Easy to confuse with hesitation while charts are being compressed, or drawn, but it is different.
  2. Only happens with OpenGL and Smooth Panning / Zooming turned on.
  3. Only happens when using the mouse scroll wheel.
  4. Don't know exactly how to reproduce it, but seems to happen between the transition from or to one/many charts on the screen.
  5. If I am moving the mouse wheel in one direction and it freezes it will not zoom again until I reverse the wheel direction or click on the chart. It can stay in that state for a long time.
  6. When I click after being in the frozen state it's like queued up zooms are released and display will zoom several levels.

Just an annoyance really.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2410 Released

CMakeLists.txt possible bug
Build in Ubuntu 12.04
I tried to built a full package to use for a first time installation on my Linux machines. I followed this: Modularized Packaging | Official OpenCPN Homepage.
Though, to get the package through the build I had to use CRUDE instead of INTERMEDIATE to the gshhs settings for cmake ../
I think CMakeLists.txt is a bit dated in this respect?
Code:
SET(gshhs_MIN
        data/gshhs/poly-c-1.dat
  )

SET(gshhs_CRUDE ${gshhs_MIN}
        data/gshhs/wdb_borders_c.b
        data/gshhs/wdb_rivers_c.b
  )

SET(gshhs_LOW ${gshhs_CRUDE}
        data/gshhs/poly-l-1.dat
        data/gshhs/wdb_borders_l.b
        data/gshhs/wdb_rivers_l.b
  )

SET(gshhs_INTERMEDIATE ${gshhs_LOW}
        data/gshhs/poly-i-1.dat
        data/gshhs/wdb_borders_i.b
        data/gshhs/wdb_rivers_i.b
  )

SET(gshhs_HIGH ${gshhs_INTERMEDIATE}
        data/gshhs/poly-h-1.dat
        data/gshhs/wdb_borders_h.b
        data/gshhs/wdb_rivers_h.b
  )

SET(gshhs_FULL ${gshhs_HIGH}
        data/gshhs/poly-f-1.dat
        data/gshhs/wdb_borders_f.b
        data/gshhs/wdb_rivers_f.b
  )
All other files then what's in SET(gshhs_CRUDE ${gshhs_MIN} above are gone from the gshhs library - right?
Thanks
Håkan

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2410 Released

mo...

On wheel zoom freeze: I have seen that, tracked it down and fixed for next release. Thanks for reminding me.

This I don't get. Grib control dialog goes off and on normally with main toolbar control. What am I missing? Could you explain it again, maybe another way, so that I can get it?

Thanks
