Are you using OpenGL? Same without OpenGL?

Will you post your logfile output related to OpenGL?

Anyone else see missing symbols on slow pan?

Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2410 Released

v 3.3.2410
Mac OS X Yosemite

While OpenCPN is running, if the USB-Serial GPS is unplugged the computer crashes (not the program). If the device is unplug with OpenCPN closed, this issue does not happen. I tried with two different GPS units.

Yes, only seems to happen in OpenGL (on Ubuntu 14.10 64bit with Intel i915 driver). Also only seems to happen on upper and left border of the view, not on lower or right one. log file is appended, but I see nothing special in there.

Thanks for looking into this.

Update: including logfile here as uploading does not seem to work.

I just rebuild 3.3.1606 aka git commit f481afa and that has the same behavior. So definitely not something new (or at least the "new" part is not in git, could of course be opengl, kernel, driver , ...)

If you go to ~/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/ you might find the associated crash report. It will be usefull to see it. So please post it here.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2410 Released

Found a rendering problem using cm93 charts without opengl (see screenshot)
Switching to opengl rendering is ok but AIS names text color turns itself to black.

Using linux (gentoo) with intel graphics.

Gerhard...

I just tried USB adapter on Lion. Plug and un-plug works fine, no crash.

Are you able to test this on Yosemite?

Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2410 Released

nkiesel...

San Mateo buoys...

Just to confirm the situation:

I can reproduce this only if...

1. Start O
2. Shift to non OpenGL mode
3. Exit O
4. Start O
5. Shift to OpenGL mode
6. pan slowly, bringing the buoys onto screen from left.

This is the only scenario I can reproduce.
If I start in OpenGL mode, all is well. Its only when switching from dc into OpenGL for the first time that I see this.

Anyone else?

Thanks
Dave

Does it happen if you Options->Display->Advanced->Suppress overzoom emphasis ??

Thanks

Dave

Panning at extreme overzoom is what triggers the whole thing. Once triggered, it can't be stopped in the current session. No matter what.

Restarting and activating "Suppress overzoom emphasis", prevent the corruption. So a "no", to your last question.

It was jmg81 who has a problem and I asked him to post his crash log.
I don't use USB GPS adapters but Bluetooth devices, so I cannot test.
But looking in his crash log there might be possibly a hint about a broken USB driver or the such. So I wait for jmg81's crash log posting.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2410 Released

cagney, Ptizef, Sean, etc...

OK, OK....

I have temporarily given up on overzoom blurring for low performance OpenGL systems. There are too many systems variable to consider and test adequately at this late stage.

In the latest commit, overzoom blurring is performed only for those systems with modern and fully capable OpenGL drivers/cards. Otherwise, a very gentle "fog" is applied to extreme overzoom displays as a visual que to the user that she is highly overzoomed.

Maybe we will come back to this issue in a later release.
For now we have a solution that does a useful job, but preserves good performance.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2410 Released

nkiesel...

I found a path that might produce un-rendered ENC symbols on slow pan, depending on the OpenGL driver capabilities available.

If have corrected in the latest github master.

Let me know, please.

Thanks

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2410 Released

Speaking of the latest github master, is it still located where the documentation says, or has it moved?
Quote:
All operating systems can be compiled from source.
Download the latest development code with git.
"git clone -b master https://github.com/OpenCPN/OpenCPN.git"
I tried using git to retrieve it last night, and it seemed to be pulling an old version of the source (3.3.16xx or 14xx, can't remember exactly).

RD...
The problem is your workflow, not the repository as you can always confirm looking at https://github.com/OpenCPN/OpenCPN
If you want it simple and have the bandwidth, just delete your local tree and do a new clone.
