Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2410 Released

Dave..
The actual machine is a bit dated (IBM) Lenovo R61 and I've two of them used as redundant navigator tools in my boat. It's worth considering to let Win stay back and stuck to Ubuntu. (I've used DOS>Win since that once started and now Linux for one month)

Do not worry, it was not you that I spoke in my last post. I know what efforts you made to fit O.

For cons, I address to all those who do not watch the download statistics ....

Best regards. Gilletarom.

Which version of OpenCPN are you testing this chart on?
What has your OpenCPN log file to say about this chart?

The Projection meridian is wrong, as in many Swedish tmercs. Recent changes, by Dave (about a month and a half ago), compensate for that. I have an older version of the same chart that displays correctly. Considering the skew override in the log, my best guess is that there is something wrong with the charts Geo-referencing. I don't know if you're up to it, but it's easy to redo the chart manually, if you know how. PM me if you like me to have a look at your chart.

Thomas

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2410 Released

Thomas...
Thanks, yes I've that older chart as well and it's also for me correct shown. So I guess I've to compare the geo references for the two and see if can edit the shew one. I suppose you don't mean to put it "right" by a SK=15.1931?

Dave

A curious view, playing around 20°N 0°E scale let's say 1.000.000 to 20.000.000

Found with last git but can't reproduce with official 2410
( VISTA )

But I never steer those. The only course I steer is "the course", whichever calculations and plots I scribble and labels of these to decide upon it.. And a river follows its course not a COG or CTS. But If it is wanted to label the components to relate the various vectors involved to decide upon a course as "courses", they are imaginary ones. COG is a peculiar one anyways. I believe it is considered to be a resultant. So why not label it Course Over Geo-grid?
Apart from the empirical evidence of water sloshing noises and heavy grinding thumps, my chart indicates whether the course is across a body of water pooled on the planet .

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2410 Released

Something is stealing dialogue box focus!

This is a bit strange:
On one of my winXP PCs the dialogue box focus disappears every other second or so. When I open a dialogue settings box and try to enter something the focus is gone so I can't write. Also the box's own focus is gone so the coloured frame is no longer filled.

This occurrence is valid:
On one of my WinXP PCs. Not the other and it's not in Linux. (Both WinXPs run the same installation package.)
When NMEA sentences are coming in via network, UDP. (Haven't tested serials.) No network - no problem.
For example the route manager dialogue.
For example the BR24Radar_pi dialogue.
Not for the WMM_pi dialogue.
For 3.3.2410 fetched 10 hours ago. It's not valid for a 3.3.2410 version built 2014-12-12 (Was the only "old" one I've saved.)
Dave, the problem is on the machine with the "odd" texture compression so I tested with and without OpenGL - no difference.

There's nothing odd in the log file.

Any suggestions for further tests? please advice.

Håkan

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2410 Released

More info to last post #177

The disappearing of focus is actually also valid on the other WinXP machine, just a few second more between the "stealing".

And another observation:
If I use Alt-Tab to another program OCPN takes the focus back after a second or two. I've to use Alt-Tab another time to stay in the other program. Also only when Network, UDP is coming in to O.

(This could have connection to the new menu bar activation with Alt-key.
Alt-Tab is not fully recognised by O. I know we try to detect any key combination together with Alt but Alt-Tab is not caught there so the menu is activated in "the middle" of the program switch. Far fetched??)

It's not far away to suspect my NMEA stream coming via UDP from another O-instance, so here is the file I use: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/...st_VDR_rec.txt

Whatever you call it sometimes it's useful to show the chart oriented with your general course up e.g. Showing your destination top centre of the screen, this remains stable as you tack making the location of such items as clearing lines, lay lines very clear; another time you might be fighting a cross current and don't want to show your heading which is almost irrelevant.

On other occasions such as when threading a narrow twisting passage you want your screen to automatically rotate; this is when you employ "heading up".

This why most modern systems offer, "north up", "course up" and "heading up"; whatever names they use there are three options.

I agree. O should have three choices, just as you suggest. There are different times when each is useful. I sail in a river with strong currents, and I would really like to interface my compass to see the offset between my course and my heading. But I want to see course up, not heading up. The way O works now, if I interface the compass, I will get heading up, not course up. There should be a choice for all three.

This would require a third color for the GPS indicator icon: Blue for North Up, Red for Course Up, and another color (Orange?) for Heading Up.
