Release 3.3.2316

Release Notes:
389. This is a "fogging" effect on excessive overzoom. It is a linear fade, starting at OZ=10, and the chart detail is almost completely gone when OZ=30. The screen assumes the blue color of the GSHHS background chart. Zooming can continue for all (now very faint) chart types up until the onscreen scale is about 1/600, depending upon latitude for mercator charts. At 1/600, 2 metres (best GPS accuracy) is about 3 mm, or 1/4 inch.

Please check and clear your Flyspray issues, if possible

Thanks, and good luck

Dave

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2316 Released

Statusbar font size in 3.3.2316 seems difficult to change. see attached comparison 3.3.2303 and 3.3.2316 In the left windoe ( 3.3.2303) the settings is default. In the right window I has tried to increase the font setting to font size 30 and also different fount types is tried, but the font in the display remains "small" the small font size in the statusbar makes it very difficult to read the statusbar. sysem is Linux/ Xinutop with opengl.

Does Open CPN cover Australia?

Is it reliable?

First I've ever heard of it.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2316 Released

Rustic Charm...

you can use the official Australian vector charts from AHS (others spell it AHO) in the S-63 format with the S-63 plug-in.

Requires the OpenCPN from the beta series - 3.3.2316 from today for example plus the S-63 plug-in.
--> manual at Opencpn.org
--> additional info in this case at O-charts.org

Yes, it is solid enough to cruise Australia. And not only Oz.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2316 Released

to the maximum small scales 900, 400 chart as if in a fog

significantly decreased performance when displaying maps with particle map density of 100% in Grib plugin.
Error video driver nvidia at particle densities greater than 50% was observed.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2316 Released

Thanks guys. Looks great.

The new menu bar is a very nice addition. A couple of issues though:
  • When menubar is on, full screen (F11) does not work
  • A menu item and a hot key for toggling the menu would be nice!
    Hint: menuless window apps show the menu when the Alt key is pressed eg Firefox etc

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2316 Released

themadsens,

on which system are you (Win, OS-X, Linux)?

What I observe on the ARMhf system (debian, no OpenGL) is the following:
- Alt enables/disables the menu
- F11 works only with the menus enabled.
- Menus are not visible in fullscreen mode despite of being enabled

System starts without menu
--> F11 no effect
--> Alt --> Menu enabled
--> F11 --> fullscreen (but menu bar not visible!)
--> Alt (menu blindly disabled)
--> F11 Windows stays fullscreen
--> Alt (menu blindly enabled)
--> F11 --> back to smaller window, menus are visible

Hubert

Ok,

can reproduce this under Windows 7 (w and w/o OpenGL).
BTW.: the Alt-key toggles the menu on/off (point 391 from the announcement)

Confirmed on our standard Linux system.

And one additional observation:
Menu enabled and dragging, zooming or just clicking on the canvas will disable the menu.
This under Windows as well. Feature or bug?

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2316 Released

Hi guys,

I've downloaded opencpn tonight and I've read that opencpn does not supply the charts, but where do I go to find the charts?

I'm after just Australian charts for the time being.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2316 Released

For free charts, do a search on here for CM93. You will find some info on where to download. You must stay at Edition 2, because Edition 3 is not compatible with OpenCPN.

The OpenCPN help also has information about other compatible formats that you can buy ... see the discussion on S63 as well.
