Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2316 Released

Latest Git. I write here as I can't attach a pic to Git.

The new feature.
Saving a mapping of MMSI -> ShipName to CSV file
does not work as expected. Look here

The target is in the csv file and instantly comes on as "green".

"Unknown, Underway"
But, ... it isn't "unknown" anymore, thanks to the new patch.
There may be more issues like this. Just looking quickly.

Back to you "johnboiles".

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2316 Released

After the last MMSI -> ship name patch:

In the rollover the MMSI now scrambles the next line.

I'm a bit worried about performance for this feature.
Entries in the csv file are just chronological.
Searching this when having 10.000 MMSIs recorded will result in what??

Thomas,

don't know:
The name (are we sure?), MMSI , CallSign will not change
but
Type of vessel you can modify for sure in any AIS on the fly
Draught should change (sometimes) as well

Hubert...
Yes, you are right - while loading the name it includes the newline character, also affects the target list. Fix is easy and coming in a moment.

Rick....

Where are you going to get 10,000 live AIS targets except from an internet feed?

This is a Feature for vessels at sea, not necessarily for armchair sailors.
If we have to, we will clip the file/hash size to a reasonable number, just like we do for sorting the AIS target list.

Meanwhile, try to break it.

Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2316 Released

Dave,

Rick is not the culprit, has been me.

As far as I have seen the list is accumulative not just the session, so it will grow over the time.
At busy places like ours here or Thomas listening to the Baltic feed this will heap up to a 4 digit number in not that long time.

And for sure we will try to break it, that's the only thing we are good for!

Hubert et al.

Should we introduce a new colour for targets, identified from the csv file, but still hasn't transmitted the full info? 50% yellow, 50% green?

That passed through my mind as well.
And we should consider that this is not standard conform at all.
Implies for me an option to enable/disable "preemptive static data" at AIS.

A case of "just a little bit pregnant"

Hubert....

Please, no more cryptic option buttons.
We must learn to "just do the right thing".

Another color is most intuitive.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2316 Released

My thoughts:

in the AIS query dialog as well in the AIS list (maybe in the AIS rollover too), we clearly need to indicate when data are taken from cache (mmsitoname.csv). Could we replace the "Unknown" with something like "cached data" ?

As long as the source is clearly indicated (cached data), we could store and use most of the 'static' AIS data: name, callsign, type of ship, dimensions of ship, including draught. Questionable data from old static messages would be: Destination and ETA.

New data received should override any cached data and replace the entry in mmsitoname.csv if different.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2316 Released

Dave...

so what about yellow with a green plus on it (within the triangle)?

Half/half might be confused with the Inland symbol ("pass me on that side"), especially with dusk or night color schemes.

We could build a shared database, so while crossing oceans, I have a preloaded list of ships, which gives me a chance to call it by name after I receive the first AIS ping.

If interested, I have an old list (12/2009) with 335k entries: mmsi, shipname, callsign, country. It's just 10MByte ;-)

Marinetraffic counts 550.000 vessels in their data base....
There are some 110.000 SOLAS vessels.
