Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2107 Released

tested with rgleason's version from 0:34 UTC
S63 PI 0.9
W8.1, S63 charts, OpenGL on

Installation of OpenCPN and PI w/o problems.

- As Baikal states: Overzoom works but no Overzoom warning on screen
- still gray artifacts zooming in in some places. In the case of the Indian ocean once panning the screen the artifact in upper left corner will smear further.
- still some clipping of objects (pict.1)
- still issues with quilting and different scale. Not always the best available scale is honored.

Fast panning. Sometimes zooming in will stall and (impatient) clicking will then resume - difficult to reproduce.

Bit more information:
the gray tile (upper left corner) is exactly a part of an unrendered chart:

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2107 Released

Many people are complaining about broken over-zoom in this beta, but I'm facing the opposite — inability to zoom out beyond 0.13x (or 0.125x, I suppose) of currently displayed chart in single-chart mode. This complicates scrolling to other distant locations once a large-scale chart is displayed. The only way to return to overview scale is to pan the screen so the chart goes off the viewport and zoom out by several steps — but making sure that the chart does not get in view at any step, as the scale will immediately revert back to zoomed if not enough care is taken to keep the chart off screen. The alternate way is to switch to a smaller-scale chart, but you have to have such a chart near your viewed location, which is not the case some times.

There is a similar issue when switching from a smaller-scale chart to a larger-scale one: despite that “Preserve scale on switching” option is enabled in Settings, the scale is increased to accommodate the new chart on screen entirely or so. For example, when a 1:45'000 chart is displayed at 1:90'000, and we are switching to a 1:8'000 chart, the screen zooms to 1:11'000 (naming it 0.50x) so that the chart width is fit to window width. Nevertheless, if “Preserve scale on switching” was disabled, the new zoom level would be 1:2'800 (named 2.0x), so the setting is still working somehow. The same issue is not happening when switching to a smaller-scale charts — the scale is conserved as configured in the Settings dialog.

I just double-checked: none of those issues were happening in the previous beta 3.3.1931, so this might be something new.

I was talking about Windows version. As for Linux, “make package” seems to be broken since a while — it still refers to old data files (6bells.wav, etc) that were removed from source tree; but I'll give it a try when time permits.

Anton,

the download site from Rick has a version for Windows - for people who don't compile by themselves but want to help debugging the latest developments.

bcn...

The clipped lights and text are not a trivial Beta bug. They are part of a much larger issue surrounding tiled chart quilting and rendering.

Needs to go on Flyspray so that it will get some cycles.

Thanks

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.2107 Released

Folks....

Request, please:

If you post a screen shot, please try to include enough screen so that the lat/lon of the location is detectable. Otherwise, I spend some time trying to figure out where in the world you are....

Thanks
Dave

Scale of the chart 1:4000, zoomed in 1:900 which is the max.

bcn...

OK, the shot you posted shows an issue with S63 overzoom. I see the trouble there, and will require a new S63_PI to fix fully. Current S63_PI does not allow quite as much overzoom as native S57 ENC.

Anyone NOT seeing overzoom indicator with other than S63 charts?
