Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1824 Released

Hakan...

Can you identify the commit that breaks the build for you?

Maybe there is some trouble with chartsymbols.xml.
Please try to delete this file, and do a git pull to get a fresh copy.

Dave...
I can reproduce it on my Windoze XP VM - with OpenGL on, there is a huge slowdown comparing current master with 3.3.1824. Will bisect it later, now it's time to get moving.

And the winner is ............. https://github.com/OpenCPN/OpenCPN/c...5cd2cbb36603f7, namely the second commented out condition.
I don't know this part of the code at all but it seems kind of impossible that we need to load the table every time. Forgotten debugging helpers?

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1824 Released

Hi

I generally don't use Raster charts. I have a quit old set of chart over all the French cost. I tried it with the last git
In GL mode, and quilting panning and zooming is almost impossible, generally extremely fast for a single chart but hanging at each change.
I am not sure of the quality of my charts but I am never seen this with previous versions
But CM93 seems to work normally
I tried this with Vista and W8.1 with the same result

Jean Pierre,

the easiest is to install some of the US raster charts - ok, you can't overlay those to the region your are usually in, but in order to test I think this is the most practical way to get a relevant number of charts.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1824 Released

Hi there,
here's another weird effect when zooming in / out (with mouse wheel) on BSB raster charts, with OpenGL off.
I did not do any chart compression for OpenGL, but when setting OpenGL on (just setting the tick), the bug looks different.
See naming of the 3 screenshots ...

Win7, 64 bit, lastest github commits.

I do not see any zooming delays compared to Cm93. That's why I actually started playing with it ...

jp.

Raster charts in GL mode:

1. Do you have OpenGL option "Texture Compression" set? This option is actually slower on some machines, depending on the capabilities of the video system.

2. Similarly for Texture compression cacheing...

3. What hardware are you testing with?

Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1824 Released

Dave

I tested on notebook QC60 15' vista / Intel chip set R(4)
I tested also on a low powered AZUS net book 10' W8.1 / AMD Radeon HD 8180 and the result is approximately the same
With this last device switching from CM93 charts group to raster Charts group over a zone where I have several raster charts hangs until I am obliged to cancel O
I tried in debug mode but the CPU is so jammed that I can't do anything. VS itself hangs, the cursor is immobile ... during a long time
I tried to return to 1606 which is the only old beta I have kept. The result is quite the same
If I am the only one to face this problem, may be I have to put all these charts to the trash bin and test with a new set (as suggested by Hubert), but I am afraid I will have very little time in the few coming days

Jean,

Do you have compression and compression caching enabled for opengl options? Maybe you can try to build the completely cache, this should greatly speed up chart switching. Otherwise try disabling compression caching and finally compression to find the best setting.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1824 Released

I am seeing some strange graphics anomalies with opengl in quilting mode. I don't recall seeing this until very recently. In raster mode zooming out far enough, it should quilt with cm93 or show the background chart, but instead renders nothing, so panning and zooming just corrupts the area outside the raster chart.

Without opengl I don't see this problem.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1824 Released

Sean, Dave

After more tests to night, I would like to correct my report
With Texture compression off and texture catching off, it is better
I get some small hang when opening certain charts but it's usable
But I still get some lasting hangs for which I have to cancel O
I tried in debug mode and I got several times the attached call stack

I have to test building texture cache
coming back with the result

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1824 Released

Dave,

version 3.3.1929 compiles OK with no warnings and errors with Xcode version 6, wxWidgets 3.1.0 and OS X SDK 10.9. Still not used SDK 10.10 Yosemity right now. Running the program doesn't crash.

From formerly more than 1,000 remarks of code analyzer (including all plugins) there are now only 59 left in OpenCPN main, 24 in S57ENC and 7 in GARMINHOST which is a nice result. These are mostly logic errors (assign value is garbage or undefined, null pointer deference or the such), memory errors (use of freed memory), dead store (value stored to a variable during initializing and never read). The code analyzer always make some assumptions which might not exists in real executions. However it is a nice stress test. If wanted I can make a list.

Pull the latest master - Should be fixed there. At least it is for my machines.

Does this happen only on really small scale charts?
Any correlation with a chart that crosses 180 E/W?

In your pix, I note that I have never seen a piano bar with a raster chart of smaller scale than cm93. What chart is that just to the right of yellow cm93 key button?
