Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1824 Released

The grib problems are known, and I have fixed them but missed the beta. I was updating interpolation mode to work with moving gribs, and gribs with different time scales and didn't realize I missed a few cases.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1824 Released

I updated and recompiled my opencpn to 1824 and now under 1824 my toolbar isn't visible. I tried running my old build of 827 and the toolbar is visible. Any idea how I get the toolbar to display?

What is your platform? Did you try the official, pre-built binary Beta available from opencpn.org?

Thanks
Dave

I had problems with the toolbar, if any plugin was enabled. I only had this problem on the cubie truck running cubian with lxde desktop. I fixed the problem in my fork of opencpn, and now the toolbar is never hidden.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1824 Released

Hello Dave,

Yesterday I still had a lot of galleys with O 331 824. I did not even want to send more posts.

On these two or three days, I will be at sea

Last year, I sailed in confidence, with a beta of 33xxxx series. Long ago that the beta has been deleted from the hard drive. Therefore, we will use the 322 version of O.

What a pity! O This regression is a nightmare. Just look here in France, in the forums, to see that the thread on O disappear subjects.

I also note that I will leave without buying the S63 cards SHOM, not having an O really working version. What a waste!

Too bad ... It could even be that I left the ship as the current situation grieves me.

Best regards

Gilletarom.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1824 Released

I have not been contributing much but I just want to say that I applaud all the optimization work, and I am totally confident we will emerge with a much faster application that will be as stable as we are used to.
Development is all about fixing quirks, and larger changes means more quirks. For those troubled, just use the latest stable version for production, and don't use the beta if it means to much hassle.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1824 Released

Gilletarom,

when somebody like you dedicates that much energy and time into a community project everybody understands completely that one wants to see a good result that makes it worth the efforts. Being eager to have a brilliant product.

We would like to have more people trying the S63 stuff as well, but on the other hand the slow ramp-up also helps us to discover and to repair the remaining bugs. And there are some user out there using the beta with S63 charts right now. And are coming with things that are not ok and we had to resolve.

Dave took a risk to merge the optimization now - was an important decision to take a risk. Being conscious that this would delay the 3.4. And what I'm seeing is that the bugs are getting cleaned out step by step. Wouldn't say it is getting worse. Perhaps it took some more time we would like to have seen and perhaps in some moment it has been more an Alpha than a Beta test.

So don't stress yourself, don't get angry, relax and have fun boating - and don't forget: having fun is what all this is about.
And when you get back, for sure some more bugs are gotten resolved (and as always one or another will be discovered)

Speaking of S63...
The known bug concerning accented letters is still there in 1814.
Saint-gunol should be Saintt-guénolé
Ekmhl should be Ekmühl

Regarding missing toolbar:

Sean's fixup for this problem with PlugIns is now pushed to github master.
I had similar problem with CrunchBang (debian) window manager.

Thanks, Sean.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1824 Released

Good morning testers...

Time for a pep talk?

Let me restate clearly the current mission of the O dev team.

1. OpenCPN Version 4.0 is the target.
2. 4.0 will be a major upgrade in functionality, performance, and platform support.
3. 4.0 will be released when it is ready, fully tested, and stable.
4. We are under no pressure to replace OCPN 3.2.2, the current stable Production build.

So, here is the situation. Major changes to the internal "plumbing" of OCPN have been necessary to set us up for the modifications that will get us to the goals of 4.0. As you know, some of those plumbing changes have had, and still do have, serious regression issues. I expect this. And frankly, if we did not get some breakage here, I would say that our ultimate goal is too modest.

The OCPN development team is more than a few night-time code pushers. The team includes the legion of Beta testers who find the time and motivation to test under difficult conditions, create reports, suggest improvements, and soldier through the potholes.

And this worldwide team is unlike any development team I have ever been involved with. I am humbled.

So, we stay the course. We push through the gales, ice, and shoals. And we arrive at our destination battered, but satisfied.

Thanks for your continued support.

Dave

Funny thing - does not happen with the Spanish S63 charts. Seems that there are no accents used.
But we have a screenshot from a user with a German chart (Helgoland) and there the issue is visible as well: "Sdhafen" instead of "Südhafen" for example. Or "Dne" where the correct would be "Düne".
Seems that it only concerns Umlaute or Accents (=composed characters). In the Spanish charts "Ç" does appear correctly.

Can Norwegian users with S63 charts perhaps confirm this behavior?

Nope... é is a single character (a single keystroke)
