Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1824 Released

After the problems last night, I de-installed O31824, I déinstallé O331731 and I de-installed O322. Then CCleaner.

After that, I installed only O 331824.

I loaded the CM93 and raster maps VisitMyharbour. I put the boat in Europe, next to the island of Jersey. See second screenshot.

I wanted to switch to OpenGL ON. In this case, the boat is automatically set in the southern United States and the map is stretched horizontally. See first screenshot.

You can return to the initial situation returning OpenGL OFF!! And so ON !!!

Gille... I had same problem earlier. I think it is fixed in most recent changes yesterday. You need to do git clone and compile though until Dave posts the exe.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1824 Released

RE Sean's Post #3 Texture Mapping and Cache.
1. Use first core for rendering map to reduce wait time.
2. Use multiple cores for texture caching.
3. Switch to texture cache at appropriate time.
4. Access texture caching controls from Options too.
5. Allow saving texture cache, and preprocessing.

I like all of these ideas. Sounds like it might be take some effort. Are they for a future version? Should they be put on Tracker?

Thanks.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1824 Released

Now that the cache is built per-tile it is much less of a delay, so on some systems not too bad... but in most cases I assume people can build a complete cache when they aren't using the computer and avoid any delays at all getting the best experience.

The delay is slight on my chromebook, but long on the cubie truck.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1824 Released

I'm not sure if caching is working on my boat computer (fitPC2i) ?
Where are the cache files stored ?

My home computer just crashes when OpenGL options are enabled (crash report sent).

Thanks,
JM.

Gilletarom...

Regarding your OpenGL problems:
I am sure we have seen this before. Could you please post your logfile here?

rgleason...

The changes in github after 3.3.1824 was released will have no effect whatsoever on a Windows Release build. So there is no need to pull and build (yet) to try and correct any issues with 3.3.1824.

Thanks
Dave

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1824 Released

Hi testers....

I have received a few crash reports. There is a known bug.

1. PlugIn raster charts (NVC and BSB4) do not work with texture compression. Causes an immediate crash. This is a simple coding oversight, and will be corrected.

Sorry for the slipup...

Dave

Any other comments (from anyone) regarding texture caching and performance?
Thanks

Similar results here ,though restarting O after changing to openGL is a help I think...fooling with OpenGL settings without a restart can have bad effects maybe...
It does work fine after you hang around a bit after hitting the zoom keys and let it do iwhatever (caching?) ,but if you go outside of that area of interest, naturally there is some delay as it caches some more.

I always end up with Open GL OFF in actual usage, because it's faster, easier and Raster charts are sharper. The Sean versions have been very good in this "simple mode" for me, by the way.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1824 Released

Spoke too soon. When using MSVC++ and trying DEBug Mode
Unhandled exception at 0x0165366d in opencpn.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x000000dc.

Break Continue

Styles.h comes up at

namespace ocpnStyle {

WX_DECLARE_STRING_HASH_MAP( int, intHash );

Am I missing some files?

Håkan,

have a look at posts #22-25 in this thread. Seems to be the bug you are hunting.
