Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1731 Released

Crashing while zooming - Windows 8.1

I am trying to run OpenCPN on a Panasonic Toughbook under Windows 8.1
It consistently crashes with "program unexpectedly stopped" when trying to repeatedly zoom.
I have now installed latest beta which has same issue. But I have been able to send several error reports.
OpenCPN is stable on my desk top running windows 7
I might try running it on another Win 8.1 machine.
I have disabled antivirus and anything else I could find on the toughbook.
I am leaving for the Canaries and the Caribbean very soon and hoping to get a stable platform
Many thanks
Frank

Hello,

The 3.22 version is the stable version; even if its functionnality as not as much advanced that the ones in 3.3xx Betas, you can use it with confidence.

I suggest we fix this problem forever by appending each new track point to the file on disk as it is added. A single point should be a fast operation (a rewrite of the entire track every time is too slow)
Ok thanks
Off course I agree and hope that will be fixed

But what bothers me is that since I bought this new machine, I sailed for more than 150 hours mainly with 1606 beta version and I had 2 or 3 occasional crashes like this but I never lost my tracks
With 1731 beta, 15 hours sailing, two crashes and two entire tracks lost !

Related to the display problem I described in #125
Reverting back to 1606 beta version, but using the last grib-pi I have no problem
I can confirm it's linked with 1731 beta

pitzef,

If it's easy to reproduce, can you find the exact commit which broke it with git-bisect?

Dave
This morning, I launched and closed twice O. Twice O. Each time with a "hole" in the chart.

I display chart group SHOM in an area they do not cover. To be sure you have a hole, I use the "Zoom -" button. In both cases, I went to the group of charts NV-Verlag.

Attached is the log file.

I recall that I observed the phenomenon with the S63 charts, with S57 charts and raster charts of Argentina.
I have not managed to oberver phenomenon starting group raster maps of England VisitMyHarbour.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1731 Released

This does not look right for me:

S63 charts, outlines activated.
Zooming out there are no/only few details in the areas where the outlined, underlying charts are.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.3.1731 Released

Gilletarom....

Thanks for your patience.
I did finally reproduce the problem with NV-Verlag "holes".

The problem relates only to chart group changes, and the available charts at a specific point in the new group. This is why it seems to be specific to NV-Verlag, and hard to find elsewhere depending on your charts and location..

Does not relate to NVC PlugIn nor OpenGL optimizations at all. That's good news.

The solution is now well understood, and will be in the next Beta.

Thanks for your support
Dave

I confirm. No problem with my PC. OpenGL ON or OFF. Perhaps, I am lucky.
