Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.802 Released

First, as far as the tides are concern, I was preferrig the interface you had before marking in larger character the names of the stations. Secondly, would that be possible to add a check box when loading the IDX so that you can choose the one you want to use instead of removing it for using an other one. Then you would load them once and choose the one you want to use. Otherwise, we have to make a unique file and that was not what many did ask for.

Pardon me for asking, but are you sure you're not just zoomed in to an area of all water? Pale blue would indicate the background chart IS being drawn, otherwise the background would go back to the old black. If it is being drawn but land is missing then that's a whole different problem...

If all the time, could it be some installation problem? Anything Gshhs-related in the log?

Dave's small patch for the menu shouldn't really be causing this, and it's working fine for me on both Win and GTK.

Thanks Jesper, you're right.
Doing a "make install" solved the problem.
Earlier, I had just dropped the binary into an existing portable testing directory. Obviously, this isn't (always) good enough, for testing.
Nothing suspicious in the log though.

Could you post the [Settings/MSWFonts] section of your opencpn.ini ?

So that line is marked as French, but the text is English.

I am suspecting this is a leftover line that got converted from a an even older leftover line in your Pre-3.1 opencpn.ini.

As far as I can see in the code there is only one single occurrence of the "StatusBar" text, and that is correctly translated.

So this situation cannot happen unless you had the problem already in the pre-3.1 opencpn.ini, and in that case there is not so much to be done about it.

The solution, as before, is to remove that line.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.802 Released

Folks, sorry if I will sound harsh, but this whole business with localised INI files is plain wrong and is going to cause a lot of support headaches.

INI files are not part of a user interface, they are primarily meant for a computer program to store and parse settings data. The official user interface to the data which ends up in INI file is via means of a proper (and properly localised) user interface offered by the OpenCPN application, however, the actual format of data in INI file should be locale agnostic.

If a user ever needs to tweak an INI file, they should be considered geek class users and should be able to put up with a 'C' (or en-utf8) locale format.

Google made a similar error, which broke KML files and made them unusable across different locales. Please have a close look at this bug: Issue 1253 - earth-issues - KML files are broken in Non-English locales/regional settings - Google Earth issue tracker - Google Project Hosting. Luckily they resolved it back to proper, locale agnostic format.

Again, sorry if I came across as harsh. I have seen this pattern before and my only intention is to alert you asap.

Well then you should have worried before 3.1, when the ini file really was localized

With 3.1, the config keys are no longer localized, except for a comment in local language, that's kept in there for human readability and modification. The keys used to be localized pre-3.1. That is why Gilletarom is having this problem.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.802 Released

Probably I should have, but simply did not catch it earlier, as I run English locale on my computers. Sorry for bringing it up late, then. And in 2.x OCPN era I simply did not notice any forum posts relating to this problem.

Anyway, as patterns in programming go, localised config in computer readable files is not good.
