Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.802 Released

There is a slight problem with the status bar. It's more or less impossible to see the zoom factor, visible in single chart mode, on the far right. Most other fields have some space to the right of the text, so it looks like it's possible to adjust. All field except the far right one seems similar in size so perhaps it's a question of screen resolution.
Adjusting the font size is also possible but then I need a magnifying glass.

The status bar has a really weird mechanism for field size. It doesn't allow us to size a field to its content. On smaller screens the current sizes already causes the need for magnifying glass if you want the cursor position to not cut off. See attached.

Giving the scale field enough space for the zoom factor text will make that even worse.

Cut off like on your example it sure looks ugly. I wonder, do we really need the zoom factor in the status bar?

Yes, definitely. It's the kind of info that belongs in the status bar. It needs to be available when you look at a chart. Do we need COG SOG and/or Cursor position in the status bar? Considering that exactly the same info is available in the Dashboard in more readable size, it's worth thinking about. The zoom factor is important to evaluate the accuracy of what you see on the screen.

Hello,

Problem with icon of waypoint in waypoint manager

Problem with the manager of road / track / waypoint.

Waypoint tab, if you open a waypoint to change its name, it works well. But then the manager waypoint, the waypoint icons for all of the column "icons" (left) disappear.

I know you guys shouldn't have to consider other programs, but if you remove that information, GE2KAP will be on the rocks again.

I know it's been said before.... Plugin API? Standard and supported

Anyways, COG/SOG aren't going away, there would be people screaming...

On that subject: I've played around a lot trying to find the best factors to use when sizing fonts to fit in the status bar. I have found it basically impossible to come up with settings that work across all different screen sizes. That was one of the main motivations in making the font user selectable. For example, on Windows and a standard WXGA screen the current position was always cut off with the old default font, even though that one was very tiny on smaller screens.

Even with the user selectable fonts, you still end up having to go to a pretty tiny font to get everything to display on a small window.

It would be nice to improve this situation. Now looking at the label texts... Do we really need them? The info in each box is always the same anyway, and they waste a lot of space. If I get rid of some of the worst space wasting text, I get something like this:

Looses a few ":", "Cursor", "From ownship", "True" and "Zoom".
Size of scale and ship fields slightly increased.
Allows to set a much larger font before texts start to get cut off.
(Compare to v2.5 display on top)

Thoughts?

Jesper

Fine with me! If you want even more real estate, scrap the 4:th decimal in the lat/long positions. I'll rework the documentation to make the format for each field really clear.
