Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.1319 Released

Hi All,

on 3.1.1319 I find 2 issues on the analog wind instruments of dashboard (see attached screenshot):
- the digital wind speed indication is covered by the "boat" shape in the instrument
- the instrument scale flicker changing intensity and colour (on the screen is much more evident that in the screenshot)

I run win XP Home, and the graphic card is an ATI RADEON XPRESS 200.
I'm using OpenGL, but as far as I've seen there is no influence.

The tcp data is working ok.

Thanks,

Stefano

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.1319 Released

Dave...

Coming back to program hangings discussed earlier, mostly last beta, in connection with serial ports and local host connections. That's now solved but...
The same type of hanging occurs if I try to connect to a WAN address like the Frisco AIS and the network connection is not there. Also if close O with an active WAN connection. When closed I stop the network and start O. Then O hangs when trying to find a WAN connection until the network is up again. This can possible be a disturbance if I forget to disable the WAN port before closing and try to start later in the boat where normally no network is present. The way to get around would probably be to erase the port in opencpn.ini? Please try if you, or some else, experience the same behaviour or if just my somewhat slow PC that hangs.

Thanks Håkan

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.1319 Released

I had completely forgotten I had opened OpenCpn with the San Francisco feed on, when I had a SART (MOB) AIS pop-up into view while browsing something, almost a scaring experience...
I could immediately zoom to it...
So it does work...

Problem found: commit 0eda8d moved this indication to the back. Change pushed to master, will be visible in next beta.

The flicker is probably related to some weird OpenGL driver. Can you test on another computer and report? Thanks.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.1319 Released

Hi

I installed Open CPN 3.1.1319 when it came out.

I had a problem. It wanted libtinyxml2.5.3. I have 2.6.2 (Ubuntu 12.10)

I edited line 70 of "CMakeLists.txt" to depend on libtinyxml2.6.2. and recompiled (from master). All seems ok now.

I like the new port multiplexer. I tried it at home as much as I could with 3 GPS and an AIS and an output toward the autopilot but with no autopilot connected with no problems. It is just too cold to try the rest of the equipment in the boat. The temperature here is actually -16°C, about 0°F

Thanks for the good work

I found some regressions, .... or maybe it's only my head spinning
#137. Remove requirement of active GPS signal for routepoint GPS upload from context menu.
#158. Add "Send to GPS" to Route context menu.
I can't see "Send to GPS" neither for a route nor for a wpt, in the focused context menus. GPS on or off, no difference!
IIRC both worked in the alpha series before this last beta, at least at some stage. "

OK, I see this. If you have never uploaded a route or waypoint using RouteManagerDialog, then the shortcut in the context menu is not available. Why? Because we have no idea what port to use for the shortcut upload. Remember, the upload port does not even need to appear in the Datastream connections list. Its a completely separate concept. So we have no way to "guess" which port to use for upload.

This shortcut may be more trouble than it is worth.
Still, I think a purely graphical way to identify and upload a feature to the GPS has value....

Any ideas to make this more intuitive? Anyone?

Dave

What about always showing "Send to GPS" and if the port isn't set, which would be the case on for example a new installation, show the
"Send to GPS "- dialog (from the route manager).

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.1319 Released

Folks...

We are getting some inconsistent test results and request a special test from all interested.

Dashboard:
1. Create two dashboards, with different instruments.
2. Make them both visible.
3. Dock one of them.
4. Close OpenCPN.
5. Re-open OpenCPN.
6. Question: Are the two Dashboards visible, and in the right places?

Don't forget to tell us what O/S you are using, please.

Thanks
Dave

Dave
> Yes they are both visible and in the right place.

OP: Win XP. Notebook with built-in video card.
OpenGL: No
Screen: 1600x1050 (32)

None, one or two docked is the same.
Vertical or horizontal don't matter.

Mark: When O starts there is some default positions both for O and the dashboards. The dashboards some middle left of the screen. It takes a second or a half before they are positioned to the places from last close. This is the same for one or two dashboards. Could it be that some system hang the dashboards in that default pos?

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.1319 Released

Positioning Dashboards:

XP w OpenGL
W7 w/o OpenGL

both ok, with two undocked Dashboards as well.

On XP the Dashboard first appears in a default position but is then correctly docked.
This happens on the W7 as well, but is so fast, that you just see a glimpse from it.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.1319 Released

A dashboard related program crash. A minor disadvantage but though:

Two active dashboards. Right click in one of them and chose preferences. Select the same board I'm in and use the minus sign to delete it. Click "Ok" button. > Crash.
(A insensible and "stupid" user can get up to everything! )
Everything goes well, of course?, if you instead enter the preferences from the other dashboard an delete the first one from there.

Yes, no problem. Kubuntu 64 bits, 1204.

I can confirm the crash scenario that Hakan reported in #72.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.1319 Released

Dave,

My floating dashboard are indeed not visible on screen after restarting OpenCPN (Fedora 18 x86_64). I just found that the floating AUI windows are not locked on top of the main window, they are hidden behind! If you hide one then show it again, it's locked on top and cannot go behind again... until you restart :-( I'm checking your changes to spot any constraint forgotten.

Thanks,
J-E
