This Garmin USB driver is continual garbage from Garmin that O finds , from a Car GPS. O is in love with Garmins. I can't say I share her infatuation, but let it go

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.1105 Released

Plugged the usbgps in. Trying out the sentence filter. I can't get it to work at all "properly", though it seemed ok with having just RMC available according to Pavel's NMEA plugin. Interesting that the two Ignore and Accept "agree" with each other and that's wrong.

Happy...

I've lost thread of your consciousness...

Please start over. What's broken with Bluetooth? What configuration are you testing? And separately, what usbgps are you testing? Or are they the same?

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.1105 Released

Hi, Dave.

I was going to fiddle with the new GUI per "Connections". You know, choosing sentences and the like that seems to be available. sooo,I have two available gps- One is a bluetooth, the other is a usb puck.

But, I got distracted because this beta breaks the bluetooth connection to the bluetooth gps.
I moved on to just fiddling with the usb puck and it's sentences. ....and that didn't work well for me either in its particulars....

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.1105 Released

I'm not sure how useful this datapoint is but I see some other comments about difficulty with the GPS stream. I have a dedicated nav computer with a puck GPS always connected to it. I very rarely shut the computer down but I do close OCPN when I'm not travelling somewhere. About half of the time when I start OCPN ownship is grey. I haven't found any consistent pattern to how I get it reactivated -sometimes I close O and reopen it a couple of times, once I created a new connection because closing and reopening didn't seem to be helping. Sorry I can't provide more detail but so far I can't reproduce the failure - it just seems to happen roughly 1/2 the time.

bobofthenorth....

Which GPS puck, please. It makes a big difference whether it is USB or USB-to-serial, or serial native. Also, Windows, or linux?

Happy....

OK, one at a time, then.

Bluetooth: Windows, I assume. Does it work with pre-1105?

Ignore missing 1105 log messages. There are none. They will come back later.

But what happens on 1105? Anything in the NMEA Debug Window? Can you see a datastream if you open the port with hyperterminal (without O running), for instance?

It's a USB puck under XP. I can't run the current beta under W7 - no tides or currents.

bobofthenorth...

Is this puck BU353?

And more color, please, on no tides/currents with 3.1.1105 on W7. First I've heard of it.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.1105 Released

Dave,

re:"Bluetooth: Windows, I assume. Does it work with pre-1105?"
yes,Windowsxp and the bluetooth works fine with 3.1.9 and earlier ...you can see it above post as Port6 in the second log excerpt I posted.
I can see the nmea stream in Pavel's debugger here too. It looks fine. The usual sentences, RMC being there among other common types. There are no proprietary sentences .

re:
"But what happens on 1105?" When I start O3.1.1105 the previously fine-and-running bluetooth connection to the bluetooth gps is broken. The Widcomm bluetooth stack GUI I am using shows concurrent disconnect as does the bluetooth device itself. The connection is still listed in the Connection manager but ....
"Anything in the NMEA Debug Window?"There is no stream to be seen. O doesn't crash, but Pavel's Nmea stream debugger is blank.

Can you see a datastream if you open the port with hyperterminal (without O running), for instance?"
If I close O1105,(and I must) to re-establish the bluetooth connection in the Bluetooth GUI, I can then see the nmea stream again in several apps. and of course as I said, I can start older (Portable)versions of O and it's all copacetic, man.

Notes: I use a Bluesoleil bluetooth usb dongle at the laptop.

Xport cures it. That'll do for me.

a slight correction.Earlier version of O also breaks connection upon starting but it can be re-established after O is running. Not so with newest version. However newest version only breaks the connection if the connection exists in connection manager.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.1105 Released

ps. Dave,I'm trying to get it all happening with hypertrm too. First, I had to get hypertrm onto this laptop. Done.
Plus, it is difficult to get the gps fix with this device here today. Through doubleglazed windows ,trees, dense cloud seeing about 38 degrees of sky

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.1105 Released

Ok. here's what it is for what it is worth. The connection to the bluetooth gps device must be restablished in the bluetooth GUI after it is chosen in OpenCPN or everytime Opencpn is started because Opencpn breaks the connection on starting or "choosing". This also works in this beta. So it's not different. sorry. It's an old quirk or not a quirk-just my device.
Xport (emulator) fixes this.
The only difference I find in output so far (using an app called VisualGPS because hypertrm is not going to work here for this seagull ) are blank lines between sentences in direct text output.
But Xport seems to ignore these and outputs sentences without blank lines between.
I will never mention my bluetooth gps again. I promise.

Re: OpenCPN Beta Version 3.1.1105 Released

Hello Dave,

I am currently working, away from home, around OpenCPN and I have a bad internet connection.

I need to test without losing the definition of connections created in OpenCPN. In particular, I test a connection with the TCP protocol. But my bad internet requires me to juggle this connection. I have to delete and re-create often .... This is impractical.

It would be nice if, in the "Connections" tab, there was in the line defining a connection, a checkbox "Active". By checking this checkbox, OpenCPN would try to gain access. By unchecking this box, OpenCPN do not lend attention.

Thank by advance if you can add this feature if this is possible.

I'm away from the boat for a few weeks right now but that sounds right on the puck.
