Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.925 Release

A pull this morning fails to build on OSX (10.10.5) using the latest Xcode (7.0 (7A220)).

Thank you for the excellent description. The big part of this ought to be in the Wiki to elucidate how vector charts are handled and what the user could expect to see.

My own comment is that we can of course live with the actual situation. And it's one thing to struggle around for planning and beta tests and another when the boat is slowly proceeding from one chart to another. When navigating it's usually a simple think to zoom in if necessary to get more details.
Everything is a compromise and still is OCPN outstanding in its capability to simultaneously show vector and raster(Mercator/Transv.Merc) charts.

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.925 Release

Regarding Plugins -

I mistakenly copied pavel's survey survey_v01_pi17_pi.dll into plugins for opencpn v4.1.925. There was a popup message that it was not compatible, however I could not shut Opencpn down properly (Had force Opencpn to close) until I removed it.
- If a plugin is not compatible, does it need to load the dll?

Ocpn_Draw when installed I find some json problem in the log. I have uninstalled it for the time being.

Bdcat - http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...0&d=1443233792
Yes that is it. How'd you find it?

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.925 Release

Am I the only one who has this problem of chart scaling, for instance suppose you have a chart 1/15 000 and so long as you stay at less (say
1/10 000) it shows, but if you go to scale of 1/16 000, then the chart is change automatiquely to the next under scale? What change was made to cause this?
Regards

Note:- If I can recommand to make so that you can choose chart scaling at the choise of the user.

P-Dub...

I ask again.
Can you give us a specific test case? What charts/location, etc.

Thanks
Dave

Xcode 7.0 comes with MacOSX10.11.sdk but not with 10.7.

I suggest to use the Xcode GUI instead of Cmake. So you will get better hints when errors occur. Cmake is not state of the art for Mac OSX.

Ah yes, installing the new Xcode deleted the 10.7 SDK. Good thing the instructions to reinstall are in the Developers Manual.

Gerhard, you know that Xcode is just a GUI on top of the same compilation and debug tools, right?

You will not get all the help with command line tools. I strongly suggest Xcode GUI. You have seen for yourself that it is hard to debug with command line only by this example already.

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.925 Release

JP...

So you sometimes get crashes when shifting from cm93 to your homemade .KAP Google Earth charts? This sounds familiar. It happens because the chart is exactly 512 pixels wide, or other power-of-two. I think.

Can you send me the offending .KAP chart?

Thanks
Dave

When Enable Touchscreen Interface is ticked on, the boxes on the chart bar get considerably wider and do not respond to touch. They work fine when touchscreen interface is disabled (unticked). Opengl on or off. Windows 10 touchscreen tablet.

I'm not sure how this image was generated. Dirk?

There is no difference between linux and Win on rendering rules.

So it sounds like what you want is a Feature Request to change the small scale rendering rules. That seems OK, I'll look at it.

Meanwhile:
re:
"Also with regard to quilting.. is it expensive to determine if something is rendered? Sometimes there are holes in the quilt where nothing is rendered. "

Examples, please?
Please see attached example, I can add some others if you would like.
1. I don't know much about charts and how they are rendered, really.
2. I assume the large scale chart has the Key and Text area cut out, leaving the funny shape, but I may be wrong.
3. If quilting is on O does not render the other charts to fill in this area?
4. To get this chart to render at this scale I clicked on the lower button. Normally it would not render until we zoom way in.

Quote:

Yes! I think so, but what do others think? What would it impact?

I can certainly use O as it is.

These thoughts/questions are just to help improve the first appearance/utility, rendering at large and intermediate scales, so the charts render sooner and more completely. I don't know if this would create problems or not. This is probably something that should be looked at later when the code is more stable.

Do you want me to enter this into Tracker?

PS: Also It might be helpful if you could zoom in to get it to render, then zoom out a couple/3 of scales and the rendering would be kept.

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.925 Release

O v4.1.925 does not seem to close. -Note I have compiled PI using opencpn.lib for v4.1.925 and installed these PI = watchdog, weatherfax, weather_routing, iacfleet, climatology, statusbar, otcurrent, chartdnldr and I have also installd vdr from earlier compile.

Quote:
4.1.925\plugins\dashboard_pi.dll
9:53:31 AM: PlugInManager: Deactivating PlugIn: C:\Program Files (x86)\OpenCPN 4.1.925\plugins\iacfleet_pi.dll

9:53:32 AM: Error: File 'C:\ProgramData\opencpn\navobj.xml.changes' couldn't be removed (error 32: the process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.)
What would be opening Navobj, which seems to be the problem?
Should I uninstall PI starting with VDR?
