Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1108 Release

Dave
On Windows(10)
I dare to make a new comment on the night, F5, mode. This time it may be more relevant.
The Dashboard program list is a bit glaring. Is it possible to adjust also that or is it solely by MS?

Thanks
Håkan

Win7 v4.1.1108 getting back to charts.
I had to delete the Opengl Texture cache because of recent compile.
Opengl with texture caching.
With quilting on and unchecked No full quiliting on the advanced tab.

ENC and CM93 seem to work acceptably fast, even as the texture cache gets filed and SENC files are being made. CM93 appears to be seamless when zooming with hardly a pause.

RNC appears a problem. It appears to be slow to respond when zooming in or out and sometimes hangs. Sometimes it just sits there with the wheel spinning. More about this tomorrow after some more testing.

I just want to confirm that this is because it is building the cache in the background. If you rebuild the texture cache is it acceptably fast?
Sean, Very preliminary report. Using the newest beta compiled this morning. Loading fresh RNC charts is incredibly slow. I wait and wait. It is also very reluctant to get started drawing RNC. I have not had enough time to mess with this to give you a decent report and I have to go now, but this is a heads up that there is something amiss with regard to Windows. I might be able to do more later this evening.
Rick

Sean would you do me a favor and look at Watchdog.
I don't seem to be getting any alarms (windows again?) and nobody has confirmed this problem or excluded it. I have been trying to get Boundary Inclusion Anchor alarm working. The sound works now, but the anchor never moves out of the boundary. Similar problems with Deadman, Nmea timer, etc. In fact none of the alarms seem to be working. Thanks.

Sean I like this idea:

Yes if you're actually using DUSK and NIGHT schemes you can compress textures, select DUSK then option, rebuild cache, and so on, it works, of course your cache will be bigger.

it would be nice to somehow use a fragment shader to apply color schemes. This would avoid the enlarged cache, it would allow for infinite customizable schemes (so alternate schemes for day etc...)

Hakan...

re:

sigh....
The title bar on a floating dashboard window is controlled by Windows itself by way of a theme. It is not possible to change from an application, AFAICT It is done this way so that the overall user interface remains consistent.

The best solution I can see is to simply "dock" the dashboard window at night, either left or right. This brings the window decorations back under OCPN control, and we recently added logic to dim it in this mode.

No need for sights my dear "Linuxer". Your answer was expected and your solution is really great. When OCPN take control in docked mode it works perfect.
[Rick...., how about adding this tip to the wiki? ]
Thanks

Is it possible for more than one plugin (Like RADAR+DashBoard) to participate in this docking ?

I would like to suggest it for the RADAR controls if it is possible.

Thanks,
JM.

They theoretically could, but this behaviour is orthogonal to any goal of decoupling opencpn from a specific widget library such as wxwidgets.

OK, so what would be the right way to do it ?

Cheers,

On the other hand is the radar control maybe not that important to have open as the Dashboard? And the radar picture itself has to be made more transparent during night mode. (Ooops --- Using the radar control --- C22?) F6 is though taking it down a bit.

Another approach is the use of color temperature as it is offered by f.lux.

Are we talking about the same thing?

I'm asking about the ability to "dock" the RADAR windows: Control, and standalone radar display in the same way as the dashboard windows can be.

Cheers,
JM.

No -- I was talking about a work around since docking is not possible in the BRRadar for now.
Could it be a hint for a future request?

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1108 Release

Using latest git code I get a busy cursor as soon as I zoom in or out.
This does not stop the cursor from working as expected. The busy cursor seems to go on forever.
Anyone else seen this?
Kubuntu 14.04.

Yes, I'd like to suggest the ability to dock the control and standalone windows for the RADAR plugin, just wanted to see if it was possible.

I will make the suggestion once I hear from Sean about the proper way to do it.

Cheers,
JM.

On Win10 I can't regenerate that except when a chart is about to be compressed but I don't think that's what you're talking about. And that busy cursor is quickly released.
