Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1108 Release

Dave..
OK, I'll redo it once again:
1. Open tab Chart Downloader
2. Select Netherland inland ENC Charts
3. Click "Update". Got two checked titles for "Update available" and one not checked "New"
4. Status text reads: 3 charts total, 2 updated, 1 new
5. Click "Download selected charts"
6. And !!!! This time it starts to count up and finalize ???? Are you sitting here supervising your child? Tried again another chart - working.
7. Ok - What's different? - This time there was no NMEA - UDP replay active - cause?
8. Started a NMEA UDP replay from local network.
9. Loaded a new chart group. Select - Start download. - Initiated but no count-up. Wait but no action. Status as of my picture in last post.
10. Stopped NMEA - UDP. - Start download - no responce
11. Restarted OCPN. Select the new chart group. Start download. - Works great.

Repeated once more with yet another chart group and the same pattern again. NMEA in - no download. No NMEA - download is fine.

Can I give you more details??

Håkan

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1108 Release

I'm having trouble with the quilter and ENC charts. I can get a chart to display un-quilted but nor quilted. The area is south of Cape Fear on the ICWW.

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1108 Release

An issue that is not new for this beta, by far ..

I just updated a few charts through the "Chart Downloader".
I also updated a few wx charts through a script and then ran "Scan Charts and Update Database".

I both cases I then pressed "Apply" and O did what it was supposed to do.
But ... by pressing "OK", to end the "Options" dialog, O then went through exactly the same process once more.

My expectation, and I think the original design was for the update to just run once.
If pressing "Apply" ->run
If pressing "OK" -> run, unless "Apply" was pressed first.

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1108 Release

The chart downloader sometimes required a double tap (Win7) to start "Download selected". A right click>select all will usually require a double tap. Select a single chart will only require a single tap.

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1108 Release

The site for the Dutch Inland Charts was wrong. Is this allready changed now?

De official site of Rijkswaterstaat (Dutch Water Authority) is:

ENC - Fairway Information Services

This is a added new extra Chart because of a change in the draft of a side Channel of the Westerschelde.

Zeeland; Verondieping Schaar van de Noord, Westerschelde
Author: RWS Zeeland Version: 1 Date: 11-12-2015

This is the Chart of the Delta area in resolution 8, updated almost every week, and with the name changed with the week of the update.

Zeeland Compleet Week 49 - 2015
Author: RWS Zeeland Version: 1 Date: 04-12-2015

These are the general Charts of the Inland Waterways in the Netherlands in low resolution.

Nederland
Author: RWS CIV Maastricht Version: 34 Date: 07-12-2015

Here the name of the Charts stay the same.

Regards,

Bram

What version are you using?

I think it should be fixed since:
commit f7ad89b8cebcdc9f4ee7907a9ee9da169716a625
Author: David Register
Date: Sat Nov 14 13:34:11 2015 -0500

Enable ENC quilting with disjoint coverage regions.

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1108 Release

Dave

1) I get a constant crash:
- Start O
- exit O very quickly = Crash
It occurs during the time where the Option dialog is being put in cache ( during this step the option icon is not activated)
On my Vista, its rather a short time and I have to be fast to reproduce the bug
On my slow w10 it's a long time ( more than 10 to 15 s ) and thus easy to reproduce
a remark : Opening the dialog is now fast but what we have earned here is lost when starting O.

2)test very last git
Chart downloader seems to work now
Option dialog :
tab "Vector chart Display" is Ok for me
But tab "Chart groups" is no OK :
Each time I open the dialog, the existing groups are duplicated
see screen shot

regards
Jean Pierre

The 4.1.1108 that's loaded from opencpn.org. It it's the same problem, I didn't know that it had already been reported.

Could you double check that OCPN hasn't corrupted its opencpn.conf file?
You may actually have duplicated groups definition in it.

Bdcat no rattle.

OK on the ALT key. I will stop worrying about it. sigh...
I put it in the tracker to figure out what to do later. - Would just make changing AIS settings easier/quicker if we could have a Alt-M to turn on Menubar...

Thanks

Re: OpenCPN Beta test 4.1.1108 Release

Hakan...

I confirm the duplicated chart groups on second settings invocation.

Funny, I had fixed this, and also the previous problem with Mariners Standard list corruption, on my local build. But I guess an inadvertent "git reset" blew them away before they got committed. And then I went off chasing some other shiny object, and forgot...

I'll fix them again.

Not sure why your W10 should be so slow to start. I know that Windows Debug builds are slow to start, because building the Options dialog does a lot of memory allocation, and Windows Debug builds by default do extensive memory bounds and consistency checking. This is slow. This checking is not done in Release builds.

Preloading the Options dialog is a judgement call. I can see that it might be a little irritating to experienced testers on a slow machine. Testers and developers are very used to starting O and immediately entering Options dialog to test one thing or another. Who wants to wait?

On the other hand. I think it is important that when a user, especially inexperienced user, clicks a button, then something should happen visually RIGHT NOW. Otherwise, the user feels like they are not in control of their PC, and uncomfortable. The "something visual" could be a spinner or progress dialog, which is better than nothing. But far better to have the correct action just pop up in less than 1 second.

But it is a judgement call. Opinions?

Thanks
Dave

Ok Many thanks

I am not speaking about debug build but release one.
Opening options has been always slow on this machine. I don't know why.
One day I'll put a linux on it to see if it's the machine weakness or Windows...

Your are right, testers open O then options very often, common users do not, and it's certainly better now.
That was just a remark based on my particular case with a very slow machine and a constant go to options.

Jean Pierre
