OpenCPN Android

I have just put OpenCPN on my phone (motorola G 3rd gen ) and its brilliant. Thanks to all those that created this terrific program.
I'm using the CM93 charts and have got everything working great.
The phone's waterproof to 1m depth so ideal for the cockpit.
One happy bunny!

Re: OpenCPN Android

Steve....
If you feed OCPN with AIS NMEA data it will be shown on the charts, for that no plugin is needed.
The problem in any case would be to get AIS data into your Android unless you have a USB connection?
Another possibility is if you happens to have AIS data on a local wireless network?

Re: OpenCPN Android

Thank you Håkan.

I have Quark-Elec QK-A021 SSB AiS RX Marine Electronics

It work OK with OpenCPN on my Laptop under Windows 7 with the downloaded driver.

My goal to to have it working on my 10" Lenovo Tablet which dos have a mini-8 USB connector. It's OS is one of the latest versions of Android. OPCN has been working on t for a few months with the Lenovo's built-in "Stand-Alone" GPS. I was not sure if there w an Android Driver for the USB AiS RX. With the unit plugged in, I went to settings in OPCN but can't see how to add an extra port for AiS (Like I did for the GPS). I cant test it "Live" because I have it all at home and we are 60km from the sea or any river that would have commercial traffic (SHIPS)!

Re: OpenCPN Android

Steve
You must be more then halfway since there's an USB port.
But I've never used an android with a USB so I can't advice more. For sure here are folks on the forum gained knowledge about Android USB. Let's see what's coming up and meanwhile you may find something using Google? (For example this: Using an external USB GPS with Android devices (or Laptops) - maps&maps It's about a GPS but AIS should be the same except from baud rate which normally is 38 400 for an AIS)
Good luck/ Håkan

As Hakan mentioned.

I use only wifi connection on mobile devices. Otherwise they stop being mobile.

I have tested and used wifi nmea data on android OpenCPN. It all works as well as on any other platform.

Cheers,
b.

Re: OpenCPN Android

At the top of the screen on the right is a vertical column of 3 dots. This opens the menu for create route etc. Routes can be selected with the button next to the 3 dots

I'am using a Rasberry Pi 2 with OpenPlotter. Adding a small Wifi dongle and GPS mouse.

It is a Wifi AP, a multiplexer, and a receiver for an Dab+ FM+DVB-T.

Now I have a wireless connection with the multiplexed NMEA data, including AIS, available on every other OpenCPN system. Works great on my Android Smart phone, Android tablet, Linux netbook.

Raspberry can start as a stand-alone server.

Why is that? There is also a free version in the Google Play store.

Cheers!

Re: OpenCPN Android

If you read a little you will learn why.
But go ahead and waste time on that version. You will become frustrated.
